The Dems got played, but I think the ad's headline was dumb

Frankly, I don't care about Petraeus. I don't believe anything anyone affiliated with this administration says. I think any talk of "progress" is utter nonsense when we have opened up a a civil war with retaliatory ethnic cleansing.

Now that I've seen the ad, it's not nearly as nasty as the Swift Boat Liars' ads, but seriously "Betray Us" sounds really immature. I think Move On could have done better with the headline. The rest of the ad is factual and to the point....

But a senate resolution condemning it is not worth a second of our government's time. The fact that our senate took time to vote for this is appalling. I'll applaud the senators including my own two, and Hillary Clinton as well (who I frequently criticize) for voting against this garbage.

But I don't blame Obama for skipping this either. This really was a waste of time. And wow, I'm amazed by all the newly elected Dems that voted for it. What a disappointing bunch they have been. This was another great example of cowardice. The other great one being of course the FISA bill.

I still see a party incapable of forming a majority on ANYTHING meaningful.

BTW, the only thing I can think of Senate Dems running on is "at least we don't try to pick up sex in public restrooms"...oh and "have sex with hookers with diaper fetishes"!

But seriously, at what point can we run on something being hard fought? I wouldn't expect the Dems to have actually got a piece of legislation passed under Bush - but I honestly hoped to see Bush vetoing legislation every other day. Instead we see watered down garbage legislation or plain and simple cave-ins. What about with holding money for the occupation? Keep giving Bush the sort of budget he won't pass.

Personally, I don't see Bush particularly frustrated over the last 9 months or so...not as much as he should have been.

People wanted an obstructionist congress. That's why Dems were elected (that and the fact that the GOP is the party of pedophile protectors)...Instead, Bush has still been getting his agenda through.

1. A more effective Senate Majority leader is what's needed
Reid has to step aside.

3. Thanks for the link

I honestly had assumed it was both a print ad and TV ad and had no access to a video with sound because my sound card's busted.

I still think the line "Betray Us" sounds like childish name calling. For me it came off incredibly immature.

The rest of the ad was completely factual though. Granted the headline gave Move On more publicity than it would have got otherwise. But I really am not sure that giving ammo for republicans to make the issue out of the ad, rather than the testimony was smart (granted Dems helped the repukes change the topic).

4. I agree that the ad was not that effective.....but I will say that "How" the ad
was used by the GOP and the media was effective, and yes, the Dems got played....and we are still playing.

5. Exactly
The GOP was smart in deflecting the attention from the obvious bullshit testimony by Petrauous to some immature headline in an ad.

And many Dems, rather than taking a stand for the organization's right to make an ad with an immature headline, or simply ignoring it, caved in.

8. Until today, I thought the ad was ill-conceived, and should have at
least not appeared until after betrayus's testimony. After seeing congress shut out all other business just to respond to it though, it was obviously very effective. Still don't know if it will help or hurt the rethugs, or help end the war, but it sure got move-on a whale load of publicity.
