Perhaps my ignorance is showing, but how did this "Stop being mean to Betrayus!!!" thing...

... ever get to a vote?

I mean, is this kind of "resolution" something that the majority party can't block?

Th' Google is no help to me, probably because I'm not being specific enough in my search. So any, er, enlightenment would be appreciated.

2. Warpping themselves in the flag and destroying our rights
has always played well to ignorant people. The GOP has used this before and will use it again, allowing the USSC to take the heat when it strikes down the stupid law as unconstitutional.

That is inevitable, since the folks at Move On are savvy enough to use it against the GOP's negative advertising.

7. There's no law to strike down. It was a stupid non-binding resolution, a kind of PR stunt. Something
on the par with O.J.

10. Well, thank goodness for that.
I fully expected a paroxysm of grandstanding followed by more bad law.

3. I wondered about this too.
It seems the Democrats tried to outmaneuver them with the Boxer Amendment, but lost.

5. it's cover for the Republicans denying adequate rest to the troops
Much better to have everyone screaming about the MoveOn vote and angry at Democrats...

9. I have the same question
Why couldn't they block it and why couldn't they filibuster it.

The Dems had an Iraq War resolution defeated this past spring.

11. To the best of my understanding...
...Harry Reid as the Majority Leader could have stopped this from ever coming to a vote. That he did not do so tells me he allowed it in the hopes that the Dems who felt they needed it, could find some political cover by voting for the bill, thus showing themselves to be loyal Ger... er, Americans.

Looks to me like it's about to backfire, big time.
