Anybody beside me think Larry Craig is going to get away with this?

I feel that a deal has been struck. They will not get rid of him anymore than they will Vitter or will they pursue the drooped charges against Foley. That is why Craig has returned to work!I think they will drop the charges against Craig, he will not resign and the GOP will treat this as if it never happened!

1. Get away with what, exactly?

2. depends on what you mean
by "get away with it".

Foley resigned - not sure he actually broke any laws with which to be charged, though.

Craig has announced he will resign, and I expect he will do so.

Vitter probably won't have to resign, though.

3. Craig recinded his resignation announcement and is appealing his
charges.I can't remember what he pled guilty to.Someting about lewd and laciovious behavior or intent to commit or something.Foley did break laws but it was decided the charges were too "old".I mean Craig will keep his seat and they will drop these charges!

4. I doubt
Craig will keep his seat, and I haven't read anything about the charges being dropped.

6. I really don't care. At this point I think the damage has been done and he's a
laughingstock never to be taken seriously again. That to me is justice.

12. You know I think the Idaho GOP is just dumb enough to reelect him.

11. Nah. His propositioning a police officer in a public bathroom!
Really it has nothing to do with being"gay" but Craig is such a hypocrite he has made it about that.First words out of his mouth weren't "officer I did not proposition you, they were "i am not gay" as though that were a crime! Methinks the lady doth protest too much!

10. He'll lose his job but win in court
Just my opinon. They have nothing on the guy, and he will prevail in court - easily, in my opinion.

But politics is not always about reality. The guy's not going to be able to stay in office. He will lose too many seats for the GOP.

13. I think it is quite possible...
...because of two things: 1 - he finally did something sensible and got himself some good lawyers; 2 - they may be able to get it dropped due to the passage in the Constitution that says Congress members may not be arrested when going to or from official business (he made a floor vote later that same day). Now there may be gray areas in the wording" the phrase "breach of the peace" in the passage in question can be interpreted either to include the type of thing he was charged with, or not -- but frankly I'd be inclined to say "not".

So I'd be inclined to think it might happen just as you say.

If so, we need to make it work to our advantage. We need to make poster boys of both Craig and Vitter, after all, they both broke the law and are still serving in Congress. What does that say about Congress as an organization? And in particular, what does that say about the Republic party, who after all are welcoming back their criminal members with open arms.
