6. That would make the most sense.
Gore will want to endorse a progressive who was right about the war in Iraq. That isn't Hillary or Edwards. He won't be endorsing Kucinich. Richardson would only make sense if Gore still holds to his pro-free trade attitudes.

7. Gore will only matter if he runs.
If Gore doesn't run, there will be some disappointment and feelings of some voters of having "to settle" for someone else.

If Gore does not run, I don't think Gore will announce his support for anyone until after the National Convention when his support won't mean quite as much. He will just be another loyal democrat supporting the party's nominee.

8. raise some interesting questions about what "progressive" means
I think that would be fascinating. However, I don't think Gore is in any hurry to endorse anyone at this early stage.

How big is the rift between Gore and the Hillary camp? I would think it would be quite large, given the 2000 election, etc.

9. That would be a surprise to me
Here's what Gore said to Larry King on May 22:

Gore on Hillary Clinton:
"She is running a very forceful campaign. She has earned the strong support of her constituents in New York."

Gore on Barack Obama:
"He is also running a very strong campaign. I think that he is appealing to a lot of people who like the sense that he's talking about issues in a fresh way. And, you know, he has a lot of support."

Gore on John Edwards:
"Likewise, running a strong campaign. Put out a lot of very thoughtful policy statements and positions. I think you can see the strength that he's gained from having been around the track last time."

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0705/22/lkl.01.html

My feeling is that if he doesn't run himself, then Al Gore is most likely to endorse John Edwards.

The League of Conservation Voters has described Edwards' plan as the "most comprehensive global warming plan of any presidential candidate to date."

10. If Gore endorses any one it will be Edwards.
If he had selected Edwards instead of the slime ball he picked, he would be President of the United States today.

11. You referring to 2000?
I don't think it would have been smart to pick John Edwards as running mate in 2000.

Two southern WASP guys on the Democratic ticket - for the third election in a row?

Say what you like about Holy Joe, he is a minority in Christian America.

Plus he had been a strong critic of Bill Clinton's misbehavior in the Oval Office.

And back in 2000 - Lieberman was a reliable member of the Democratic Caucus.

But of course with hindsight it don't look like the smartest choice.

14. Endorsments are overrated, but I think Gore is likely to
endorse either Obama or Edwards if he doesn't run.
