Democrats have key in Obama - However
The Democratic Party, with an array of strong, diverse candidates for president, cannot win the 2008 election without Barack Obama on the ticket.

But if the Democratic Congress doesn't do something soon about getting American troops out of Iraq, the party won't be able to win even with Obama on the ballot.

The young senator from Illinois -- despite his lack of experience on the national scene, and regardless where he currently stands in the national polls (double-digit percentage points behind New York's Sen. Hillary Clinton) -- is the Democrats' real hope, whether they realize it or not.

As we get closer to the primary season, or as the primaries get closer to us, voters no doubt will realize that. But it all may be for naught, no matter how pathetic the current administration is, how many new scandals emerge between now and then, or how bad the current Republican field of candidates is.

1. Barack Obama at the top of the ticket
brings a surfeit of good political tidings. He is the representative for Hope, Change and a newly energized group of younger political participants. On my own blog yesterday, I wrote about Oprah and Obama starting the fall political Season. Nothing in the past resembles the type of campaigning 2008 will be because of the ascendancy of new money in politics and a candidate championed by one of the most powerful African Americans in the history of the planet. Obama is the beneficiary of a good campaign infrastructure and will campaign with a much sharper focus this fall. Here in CA, the buzz is all about Obama this morning and it creates a platform to build upon. He is the true and experienced agent of change, not a revamped retread. Go Obama!
