Winner-take-all? Not necessarily
Move to split state's electoral votes by congressional district could elect a GOP president
some comments from page three:

Well, when you have ZERO record to run on as the Republicans do, all that is left is to try to rig an election...Republicans are proving again just how corrupt & dishonest they are....If this was TRULY about election reform, then they would be doing the same thing in Ohio, Florida, Missouri, & Texas...It's funny how eletion reform only means a blue state, & no red ones....This is nothing but a way to steal 20 (or so) electoral votes that they know they won't get otherwise...One does not need to be a political guru to know that the Republican candiate will lose CA. in 2008...There is a better chance of finding a 4.0 bedroom 3.5 bath house in Beverly Hills for under one million, than there is a Republican winning CA. in 2008.....It will absolutely never happen, Republicans know it, & that's why you're seeing such a blatant attempt to steal electoral votes from the Democratic winner.... I would encourage people to donate whatever money they can to help defeat this tragic initiative...

The fact is as Californians this totaly undermines our voice. We already get way less than a dollar back on each federal tax dollar we pay, now were going to turn our state into 50 some odd seperate states when it comes to pres. elections? The only way CA is going to matter to the executive branch is if we count for somthing. Dividing us up is not the way to count for somthing. United we stand divided we fall? ring a bell? Unless the whole country is willing to do this, all this measure does is destroy CA as a voting heavyweight. Are we a bloc or are we 50 alabamas?

pwlove , What are Cheney and Bush to the Repub's? answer: Ball and Chain. Sinkers for a desperate and very worried GOP. Thus this desperate act by people who would support Swift boaters, phone jamming in New Hampshire( was that ethical, because the guys went to jail and seems the DOJ may have interfered in the latest on that case), Feeney and hisinvolvement in DRE vote theft software. And I can go on and on. But here is what everyone should know: party dominance is to repugs what drugs are to addicts. The blood sport mentality of the repugs is really what is driving the party over the cliff.

As the republican party marches over the cliff, it will be the die hard blindly loyal Bush bots in need of therapy, but they'll all be happy they elected a beer drinker to the most important office in the country.

For those who ask why the Republicans don't take up the issue to revamp the electoral college in other states, just a reminder that under the US Constitution, it is the individual state legislatures that decide how to disperse their electoral votes. If other state legislatures don't want to change (or attempt to change) that's their right. Personally I think the electoral college is obsolete. Yes, it still guarantees that the "small" states still get some attention, but the founding fathers original belief that the voting public was too easily swayed by emotion or not informed enough to vote properly is no longer applicable. Of course reading some of the comments here, makes me want to reconsider.

slder78 , I do recall certain senators and congressmen voiciferously campaigning on the news and for months in their states for a Constitutional amendment on marriage between a man and woman only, thus institutionalizing a discriminatory belief. I hardly think they would shrink from trying to amend the US Constitution on this if it were in their interest to do so, but I won't wait for the repugs to gain a sense of fair play. It is their blood sport ethics that so disgust the American people.

And this one needs some educating:

A majority of the voters are totally swayed by emotion and given the posts on this board haven't got a clue whats going on. Many of these people actually believe that Bush "stole" an election when the facts are that the Democrates were the ones trying to steal the election.
