I believe in God but I do not adhere to the Jewish faith strictly. I believe that Moses existed and did deliver my people out of Egypt many centuries ago. I believe in the cultural aspects of my religion although I might not practice them. I do not go to a synagogue much at all presently. I don't even talk about religion much on Democratic Underground.
I do talk about helping the less fortunate and acting kind to people and respecting people worthy of respect. I do not wish negative results on people whose political views I oppose except in the political area. I want Republicans to fail, given their history and unwillingness to help people they do not know, other than their family and friends.
I do talk about how we can raise the minimum wage further than the tightwad level it will assume in 2 years, replace a faulty prescription drug benefit with something much better, change the electoral system to paper ballots, how to end the war in Iraq, etc.
I don't talk about God very much either. For me, I see that God exists but others do not believe in God. I do not turn DU into a synagogue. I do not expound my religious or nonreligious beliefs here.
DU does not appear a church or a synagogue.
I beleive that Christianity and Mohammedanism have gotten hijacked by radicals who oppose personal freedom and in the case of right wing Christ insanity they enable businesses to ride roughshod over the public and I call them capitalist christians. The radical Mohammedans appear to take their economic beliefs too far to the left as they abhor even paying interest on loans.
I have watched the Republiklan party for over 40 years.
They have boasted they acted stronger on crime, stronger on defense, stronger on moral values and frankly each claim appears a lot of bunk, and they have gotten caught many times not to appear stronger on any of these issues.
I oppose religious people who have to shout their faith from the rooftops, and also to pander to religious people in order to get their votes then to act when they get into office to hurt the poor, the less fortunate and the middle class, the unemployed, and the disabled. This consitutes the misuse of religion.
I do not want religious people to tell me what to do in my personal life. I have a girlfriend and when we eventually live together I don't want a society that goes back to the 1950's which would shun people as myself who would not get married but would live with my girlfriend. If you don't believe that could happen, I have read about a town in the midwest that banned unmarried people from living together.
As for people on DU believing in Christ, Mohammed, Buddha, Gautama, Vishnu very good, I celebrate your religion and your God. I might not believe in your religion or the way you approach God but I respect that.
What I don't want though comes from someone saying your religion appears the only way or if you want our laws created or changed because Vishnu, Mohammed, or Christ says so.
As a Jewish person, I do not believe my people appear the chosen people. I do believe in Israel as the land promised to Jewish people who got enslaved by the Egypatian Pharoahs and got freed and wandered for decades.
Oh and those fundamentalists who support Israel, I find them only interested in the prophecy where Christians will evntually take over Israel. I do not support them. I also did not support the Likud government in Israel and I don't have a position yet about the Kadima led government of Israel. I support the Israeli Labor party.
Yes, talk about religion but don't talk too much about religion. I tend not to talk about God very much and not to talk about religion.
Until the fake Christian Republicans and the Radical Mohammedans stop hijacking the respective religions they put a black mark on faith.
I do not hate faith or people of faith but I abhor using of religion to destroy the social order, to invade personal freedom and to enable radical capitalism when we should have responsible capitalism.
I also believe that Moses and Gandhi, and King and Mandela brought tyrants to their knees. How did they do this?
Not necessarily with protest in the streets but rather the noncooperation with these tyrants and those who enables them.
If Bishop Desmond Tutu, a friend of Nelson Mandela could tell the world to boycott South African coal and other South African products in part to bring down the National party during the 1990's
can we do no less than ask people now to stop buying Republican products from GE, Exxon/Mobil, Dell Computers, Wendy's, Outback Steakhouse, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Rite Aid Pharmacies, etc. and make demands of them?
Let my people go, Republicans!
