Clinton campaign sends volunteer to Obama
http://desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070825/OPINION04/708250312/-1/SPORTS06

came to Iowa as a die-hard Hillary Clinton supporter/volunteer, who was ready to help elect the first woman president of the United States.

I had extra time to spend in Iowa before a trip to Fargo, so I decided to volunteer for a week before I went to Fargo and for two weeks afterward.

Within the first couple of days of arriving, I had seen three field workers cry because of the abuse they took. The volunteers were segregated and treated like second-class citizens. I left after my first week, hoping things would change, but they did not.

I was ignored, even though I asked many people for work to do. So I decided to leave the campaign as a volunteer, knowing that I have been supporting the wrong candidate.

1. Oh well...
I guess she doesn't need any volunteers since the MSM has already picked her as the winner.

Also: If this is true (and that's a big if), then it would seem to go along with her being part of the "ruling class" who considers the rest of us to be in the serfdom class.

2. I get this weird vibe from the Clinton campaign...
...like they want to use people up and spit them out. Doesn't sound like Hillary personally, don't get me wrong, but it seems like some of the people she's surrounded themselves with have annointed themselves God's gift to the Democratic Party. People like that are elitist snobs, and I say the hell with them.

4. I have done a lot of volunteer work on campaigns.
I don't ever remember really liking any of the staff - much less think they knew what they were doing. The paid staff themselves are second class citizens. They are at the bottom of the political chain and often confused about what it is they are tasked with. But I never volunteered because I needed to make friends or needed to feel wanted or needed to feel important - I was there to make myself useful in any way I could and sometimes that meant just standing around.

This guy included a partial resume - what a jerk. He clearly has an ego the size of Ethiopia and thought he would be such a gift.

The hardest job for any campaign is to effectively used volunteers - particularly in the early going. They come in eager, say they will do anything, but the minute you ask them to do something they ask for a different task. Of if they start a task that you tell them ahead of time needs to completed that day and will probably take a couple of hours they will suddenly remember after 20 minutes that they need to walk their dog. Some days you have 1 person in to work and the next day you have 10. Work space is always a problem. You can't ever tell them what to do - you have to ask them if they will do it? It is always a negotiation.

I have a friend who is retired and she had decided she wanted to do some volunteer work in a campaign this year. I told her the best contribution she could make was to commit to a regular schedule - just like a regular job. If you give them a daily schedule and you keep it you will soon have something pretty important to do but plan to stand around at first. She started two months ago. I talked with her last week and she is doing something important - overseeing the walk in volunteers. Drives her crazy because no one can commit to a regular schedule.

My personal experience - the best way to feel effectively used in a campaign (esp. in the late stages) is to drive a pickup or van.

5. Hillary is doing so well on the polls. Who cares about the people she tramples on?
As long as we got that Hillary cult cooking, it will take us to victory in '08 just as the Bush cult took Bush to victory in '00 and '04.

Kool-Aid... may I have another?

7. That's not true.
Complaining volunteers reflect only on the complainers. That is the beginning and end of it.

Geez - a volunteer that needs their ego stroked - send them away.

8. So James loves Hillary and what she stands for so much,
Edited on Sun Aug-26-07 10:03 AM by durrrty libby
he volunteers to work for her campaign. After one week he is traumatized to such an extent, that in order to save his soul, he runs to work for her opposition?

Do you know how stupid anyone that believes this drivel looks? One would have to have the same number of limited working brain cells as a freeptard. Yeah well.....
