I like Edwards, but..
Edited on Mon Aug-13-07 04:46 PM by frogcycle
I think he is at risk of just being steamrolled by the big machines of the top two contenders.

I think maybe Edwards needs to get a little more outrageous. It seems to me he is taking the tortoise/hare approach, planning to be the survivor after the top two destroy each other. He needs to adopt a few more of Kucinich's - and even Gravel's - postures.

I think he needs to make some carefully-thought-out "outrageous" statements that attract attention. He has said repeatedly that big business is calling the shots, writing the legislation, etc. I have not heard him lay it all out as a coordinated effort to destroy the middle class, the way Thom Hartman does, though.

That is not something one can do in the "debate" modality. He needs to deliver a major speech, like the one Gore delivered last year at Constitution Hall. Throw down the gauntlet. "Declare war" on the special interests. His campaign so far is consistent with that, but not getting the press attention to make people understand how he differs from the mob. Maybe its not quite time to do that, but I think it is getting real close. He needs to make some waves that the press won't ignore.

edit - this is a slight rewrite of my earlier post with a different title, since with just a few exceptions, only DK supporters responded and nobody addressed the point of the post

1. I think he's running a terrible campaign, and even HRC is a stronger GE candidate.

2. That sounds pretty sensible...
It might work better than his current style, which is only going to succeed *if* Clinton and Obama are destroyed.

Of course you said that all already, so I'm really not adding much. :)

3. I agree
I don't like where Obama is going, and I don't like Hillary at all.

The more I hear from Edwards, the more I like.

I'd prefer someone like Kucinich but they are long shots...I'd vote for them in a primary if I thought they had a chance. But I'll mostly be voting against Hillary, then Obama. It's sad that a woman and a minority who would have a great chance at the presidency seem to bow to the giant corporations and profit mongers.

That said, I'm not throwing my vote away in the general election. A dem gets my vote no matter what. Screw the nadarites and libertarians...they all seem to be just shills for the corporatists (especially Nader).

4. I think he's doing what he can
The fact is that the MSM doesn't want to cover him. Maybe they will for his Rove remark. He's a white, southern man........a ho-hum candidate for the MSM. Now, a black or woman candidate, that they can make NEWS with........if only (they cry) there was a black woman candidate, then we could really make NEWS.

5. MSM mostly covers those planning to advertise with MSM
Part of the reason for the focus on how much campaign money candidates can raise.

In addition, Edwards isn't sitting in Washington all week. Reporters have to look for him. The ones who do are often part of the AP hit squad -- if the story is loaded enough with a couple of partial quotes, then jack up the headline.

But Edwards just keeps chugging along.

Considering the media advantage that sitting Senators and Representatives have in Washington, it is surprising how very few actually win the Presidency.

6. Maybe Gore will support
I've been wondering who Gore will get behind. I really doubt Gore will run, but if he doesn't he has to support someone, doesn't he?

7. I have said repeatedly that I will vote for Gore or
whomever he endorses

I have a feeling that would be Edwards, but I'll wait to see what AG says. If he knows more about HRC than I do and says she's the one, then I'm in. I trust him that much.

9. Maybe if some of the undecided would go for him it would help
Edwards, it the only front runner that can win the election, the red states aren't going to vote for Hillary , or B.O. it isn't going to happen. Edwards can defeat any republican they run. What he needs is democrat backing. Republicans have from the day one pitted Hillary and Obama against each other, their money is going in to the campaigns also. It is Edwards they are after, if we support the one they want, what the heck, we will be loosing anyway.

10. and I am trying to suggest how he might encourage that

people swooned over RFK Jr's speech at Live Earth. Very little of it conflicts with thoughts Edwards has expressed. If he would just show that kind of energy...

13. hes banking on Iowa
He has been leading there for quite a while now and he is hoping a win in Iowa and slingshot him out ahead in the primaries afterwards.

He is also pacing his money because he is not getting the big bucks that the big 2 are getting.
