Magic Johnson to hold fundraiser for Hillary Clinton
"Hillary Clinton will work a little magic - fund-raising style - at a star-studded upcoming Los Angeles event at the home of former NBA star, businessman and philanthropist Earvin (Magic) Johnson.

"We need a winner as our next President of the United States - someone that can help realistically improve relations in the world, someone that will work to provide affordable and accessible health care, and someone that is simply a strong leader," Johnson said in a campaign statement. "I know that's Hillary Clinton."

Also helping Clinton haul in the cash at the $1,000-a-ticket Sept. 14 bash will be music mogul Quincy Jones, who endorsed Clinton last month, Motown founder Berry Gordy and former Motown Chairman Clarence Avant.

The high-profile event underscores Team Clinton's effort to garner support in the black community as the New York senator competes against rival Barack Obama, the Illinois senator who seeks to become the nation's first African-American President."

1. What's in it for Magic Johnson? What promises?
There's something there and we all know it ... even if we can't reach out and touch it - the DLC has a lot of MEAN GREEN and sweet whispers for Bill's People who will be emplace IF HRC wins the Presidency. ;)

13. Here ya go! It means, in essence that many of "the old DLCers" will return to the "Clinton Exec Br"
From http://dictionary.com

em·place
–verb (used with object), -placed, -plac·ing. to put in place or position: A statue was emplaced in the square.

---

Many former staffers who were within the Bill Clinton Cabinets of the 1990s will be emplacedwithin HRC's Executive branch if she's elected President, i.e., should the planets align and hell freezes over simultaneously.

That he believes in, and believes will make the best President?

55. Magic explains why he is supporting HRC in the OP
=="We need a winner as our next President of the United States - someone that can help realistically improve relations in the world, someone that will work to provide affordable and accessible health care, and someone that is simply a strong leader," Johnson said in a campaign statement. "I know that's Hillary Clinton."==

Face it: many Democrats simply like HRC and think she would make the best president. Magic's support for HRC is likely as sincere as your support of the banking industry's favorite candidate. ;)

Ms. Illi-prog disrespected him.

You added "he's retired" to try and justify I.P's snarky responce.

I stated one of the reasons that Magic and retired.

And don't start with me about being "sick" when it somes to HIV and AIDS. Today would have been my brother's 49th birthday. He died of AIDS in 1989 at the age of 31.

You wanna go there, bring it on.

I believe that is all she was trying to say. Maybe in California you hear about him a lot. I know when I lived out there he was in the News for all of the businesses he opened in low income areas. However, on the east coast you do not hear that much about him until basketball season. I will not use him being retired as an issue. Also, I do not believe his HIV should have been brought up. This is not the place. No matter who he supports that should have never came up in the conversation.

It's a virus, lady. Mentioning that he has HIV is like mentioning that Mrs. Romney has multiple sclerosis or Janet Reno has Parkinson's. Magic has been very public about his infection. You act as if it's some shameful, awful secret. It's a fucking virus.

I'm sure there will be lots of people at the fund raiser.

I have no crystal ball but I'm willing to bet, as an African American,my brothers and sisters will party with Magic and vote for Obama.

That is what I would do.

The election is a long way away and things can certainly change but as of this moment, all I hear from my people is Obama, Obama, Obama.

African Americans were solid for BILL Clinton -- including me.

He had a certain kind of magic that would draw you to his personality and his intelligence.

Obama has those same qualities - he is just like a magnet.

I wish Hillary and Obama the best of luck.

Whoever can beat the socks off the rethugs is fine with me.

63. This LTTE says it
better than I can at the moment. I admire his honesty, but I do harbor resentment against a man who uses women the way he did. I wonder who regrets it more, him or the women he had sex with? After all he himself claimed it was mostly unprotected sex.

Women Become Top U.S. AIDS Risk Group; Johnson's Sex Partners

To the Editor:

When a talented, popular young athlete such as Magic Johnson becomes ill, we all share his sorrow. That is decent and appropriate. Yet there is a second, subterranean suffering that has yet to be addressed: that of the young women who were Magic Johnson's sex partners. We can be certain that he has harbored the human immunodeficiency virus at least six months, and it is likely that he has been infected for years.

Magic Johnson has handled himself with a dignity and grace rarely associated with professional athletes. But we should remember that he has left behind a number of infected women, many of whom will be shunned because of their illness and who will die without the adulation we heap on him. BART J. ZOLTAN Old Tappan, N.J., Nov. 12, 1991

I wasn't trying to start a Hate Magic group. I just don't see how touting this endorsement is helpful to someone who claims to be the "Champion for Women".
