Liberalism or Attackism???
It occurs to me that what a great number of DUers want is not so much an unabashed liberal at the head of the ticket but rather take it to Dubya on issues of substance.

Is what I am hearing/seeing is a call to be on the offensive rather than the defensive continually. Beat the repukes at their own game.

Agressive Populism...is it more electable than agressive liberalism?

1. Liberals should be agressive about education
If liberalism is what is required to correct a system that has become too elitist, then so be it. Without a certain amount of populism, democracy is nullified. Liberals are recognizing this and increasingly using it to an advantage.

Countries need to lean toward populism as the population increases its level of education, and vice-versa. I think the only reason you could say we had a cultural revolution in the 60s and 70s was because of the G.I. Bill.

2. You cannot be too strident in the defense of liberty
The "third way" pink-tutuism we experienced for the past three years has been done nothing but acquiesce to attacks on the electoral system, the constitution, the bill of rights, the courts, and successful social programs dating as far back as the new deal, while pursuing failed corporate supported programs of the 90's like NAFTA and WTO.

If the Democratic party doesn't provide a legitimized path to object, the country could well be looking at more serious civil unrest in the near term. Out of work, desperate, people will make the long hot summer of 1968 look like a cool May morning.

4. I'm sick and tired of letting them control the terms and territory
I'm sick and tired of fighting manufactured outrage over nothing
I'm sick and tired of our politicians ignoring the lies, improprities, and stupidities of the right
I'm sick and tired of always compromising my beliefs to others
I'm sick and tired of watching as they run away with votes

I'm sick and tired of the Third Way. I want my progressive politics back. 30 years ago today's Dems would be considered reactionary Republicans. I want to bring Progressive Populism back to this country.
