French first lady goes for walk in town day after Bush snub
Cecilia Sarkozy was seen Sunday taking a stroll in the northeastern US town where she and the French president are vacationing a day after she declined lunch with the US president.

Mrs. Sarkozy was photographed walking with two friends in town, after a day earlier turning down an invitation for a hot dog and hamburger picnic with the US president and his family at the Bush retreat in nearby Kennebunkport, Maine.

Cecilia telephoned Laura Bush about an hour before lunch to explain she had a throat ailment and that she and her children would not be able to make the gathering, touted as a rapport-building casual lunch between Nicolas Sarkozy and George W. Bush.

Bush said he was "disappointed" by her absence but understood. The French president expressed regret for having passed the illness to his wife.

Geeee, the excuse she used beats the one about having to wash her hair!

His table manners are appalling.

But Cheney's are even worse.

And I am not kidding.

12. Babs and George Sr. chew with their mouths open and let food spill out.
I can tell where Chimpy gets his "table manners".

14. Maybe she prefers not to have her appetite spoiled.
For all their posturing and entitlement-complexes about being some American blue bloods, they behave like swine. I bet if you looked up "Ugly American" in the slang dictionary, you'd see a portrait of the family bush illustrating it.

6. FDR served hot dogs to the King and Queen of England in 1939.
It's not so much the menu as the company.

13. I second that, NYCGirl.
The Roosevelts would have been much better company than the Bushes.

10. are you sure the word "snub" is correct here?
she said she was not well. if she is ill and does not wish to go, how can that be a snub?

if she said bush was a jerk and wouldnt be caught dead in the same room with him, THAT is a snub.

11. trust me, it's a snub
you have to be sicker than a dog in order to slide out of these things. Remember Pappy Bush puking in Japan? He obviously was sick, but cancel? Not a cool thing to do. But Cecilia doesn't care and knows the French people -- who despise our preznit for good reason -- will love her all the more for it. She's never been one to follow the political line anyway.

So, it's a snub and I trust the bushs -- who seem to be good at only one thing and that's carrying a grudge -- will hold it against her for a long time. Like she cares. :-)

15. Zees people, zey are ANIMALS! Ptoo!
Yes, a snub - but even more than that, a sense of self preservation and dignity. Like avoiding any predator or mass murderer,,, or war criminal family.

I can relate to that. ;)
