I Am Just Mystified - what power does Bush have over people?
I just don't get it.

Why the hell don't people stand up to him? He's stupid, he's a patological liar, his poll numbers are in the toilet, he hasn't been right on one single thing.

And yet this idiot Congress still votes to support him!

Everybody out there thinks Gonzales is a liar and a crook. So why in the sam hill would Congress vote for a NSA program that is under his control?

I am so pissed at this Congress I can't stand it. And so completely baffled.

1. Apparently he has some sort of personal charisma
which is something that I don't understand in the least, having met the man (if you can call it that) many years ago. He was not at his best, I do admit, but I imagine he was at his usual for the time.

Maybe I'm just immune to overgrown, backslapping frat boys. I wasn't impressed with them before they overgrew.

25. I don't think it's a fear of personal threat. I think it's a fear of what they can do to US cities.
Or allow to be done. It's not like they haven't had a couple of examples made for them.

He brands people as traitors, terrorists, cannibal mutants from outer space, or whatever outrageous epithet he pleases, and the Dems cower at the threat of being branded by him.

10. It has got to be more than that.
He's got some kind of hold over these people. He's got dirt on them - or something.

This stuff doesn't make sense any more. I mean, we have gone way beyond the plae.

I e-mailed Pelosi to tell her I thought this Congress is just pathetic - but it won't do any good. Nothing does any good.

9. The same power that hate and fear has.
People living in hate and fear are in their preferred
comfort zone with Bush.

That's almost the entire South and a large portion
of the midwest and western states barring the
west coast.

Bush, his admin, and people from thinktanks across
the media are very good at couching hate and fear
in feel-good, values language.

Of course, to me, perfume over shit still stinks.

20. You do realize the South is more blue than the Great Plains states.
And "almost the entire South?" Come on.

Look at a map, will ya? There are at least some blue areas all in throughout the South. There are only a tiny fraction in the Great Plains states and not much in MOST of the mid-West.

from young children at school. They do what the teacher expects of them despite the fact there's no real rhyme or reason for them doing so without at least asking the question "why".

So - *U** says jump and all underlings do so.

18. A lot of the folks who have put the Bush family
in awkward places have died of "self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head."

One has some questions about the self-inflicted part, of course, but I'm being uncharitable.

I would also point out that Bush has in place all the elements for a quasi-military takeover; private armies of mercenaries are there, on call.

21. ATTENTION ATTENTION
It is not our part of the democratic congress. IT IS THE BLUE DOGS. And over and over I have said they are republicans in democrats clothing. The only reason they ran as democrats was because they couldn't win as republicans due to the climate. And I will bet 100 dollars rove helped them. No damn wonder he wasn't worried if the democrats won. After all about 41 of them were really republicans.

22. Some can't accept that he's not powerful anymore
The days of Bush's 80+ approval ratings are over. The days of his stupid slogans are over. No one is listening to him anymore, and most agree that he is not the best source for truth or foreign policy tips.

Bush and Cheney both are pariahs. Its time to let go of the fears and move on. He doesn't even have enough juice left to endorse a candidate. GOP candidates won't even appear with the guy. And if he comes out and says bad things about you, chances are your approval rating will skyrocket.

It explains very well the cult like nature of the fundamentalist Christians in this country and why showing any intolerance of his actions would be detrimental to this group and their adherents.

It's Cheney, Rove and/or the Saudis, but it's not Bush.

I'm leaning towards the Saudis right now. I think they're blackmailing our entire country. Do as we say, or you get NO OIL from the ME.

I think ananda has the answer;

"People living in hate and fear are in their preferred

Time to let go of the fear and move on - right!

False Evidence Appearing Real, fear, is an illusion.

Let's move on and find a better way to spend our days rather than sitting in the fear. Let's live!

38. He has the political machine behind him.
He was always a puppet for a larger right wing consortium. It's those people who provide money and access to the power structure for republican candidates who have the power. They train them on what to say, and apparently allow them to live lavish debauched lifestyles in exchange for doing what they are told. And these organizations are and were smart enough to sponsor candidates in both major Parties. We've been so weak for so long, our leadership let them buy influence in the Party to the point that they can't be directly challenged anymore from the inside. The Party needs us, if it is to survive, to do what they cannot. The blue dog influence within the Party must neutered if we are to be able to influence legislation at all, either by the election of more non-blue dog Democrats or the removal of current ones via primaries. So long as this machine controls a majority of seats in the house and senate, along with its puppet in the executive, they will continue to be the true rulers of the country.
