Boston Globe: YearlyKOS "whitest group they'd ever been in."
there was opportunity for lots of hand-wringing about how the blogosphere is not all it should be. The blurb for one forum, called "blogging while female," noted, "The blogosphere was supposed to be a place where gender didn't matter and voice was all. So what happened?"

Several attendees noted that it was the whitest group they'd ever been in. It was fairly male, too, and surprisingly gray. Bloggers said that while their biggest stars, like Daily Kos namesake Markos Moulitsas, tend to be in their 20s and 30s, the foot soldiers are often in their 40s to 60s.

No wonder there so much bickering about Clinton. Mostly white males.

1. The whitest group they have ever been in?
and mostly male? Typical MSM hyperbole against non-GOPers.

Yes, non-whites were underrepresented, but male/female ratio was pretty even. But there were non-whites there.

Unlike most MSM/GOPer events where there is a token non-white and a couple token females.

30. Or We Fest
(country musical festival in Detroit Lakes, MN). I got roped into going once - the only "people of color" were white guys who had been out in the sun too long and burned their beer bellies bright red. It was a terrible experience and one of the longest days of my life.

3. Well if it isn't perfect then they are all just hipocrits and it isn't worth doing
The Superman defense as I call it-if you can find one thing one weakness then it isn't worth doing or being involved in at all. Now if that is applied to say...the idea about invading and occupying another country when you have just been attacked at home ...well there are always "unexpecteds" and "known unknown" and basically that is just the doings of monday mornign quarterbacks naysayers obstructionists and the liberal media.

Yeah so what if it is white male and gray. It is how old again? Is that really reflective of the entire blogosphere? How about the Republican convention in NYC, did they happen to catch any of that????

4. Educated Retirees
It make sense that the best bloggers would be older persons. Most younger persons are too busy working to do the research needed to be a good blogger. There are plenty of well-educated persons who have taken early retirement or who are semi-retired. Those are the people with the time, the writing skills and the research skills to be quality bloggers.

Edited on Tue Aug-07-07 09:50 AM by xultar
all bills, home maintenance, car & car maintenance, insurance, clothes, food, pets all comes out of my one wallet.

Where my white male counterparts who are often married and make more can.

Don't blame the fact that people can't show because you think they don't care. I'm just trying to keep my head above water just like all the single working women out there. It's fuckin tough. If you have it that easy then you're lucky and I salute you.

16. i'm on your side in this -- not the OP --
people have lives -- and yearlykos gets those who can -- but the OP makes this ridiculous assumption about who's there and snarking at the clintons -- i can't afford to be there either.

but i'd snark at the clinton's too.

and i don't fit the article's profile.

the OP is really trying to make a point about WHO is snarking at the clintons --
and i think there is a good deal of diversity of folk snarking at the clintons.

sorry i could have worded it all better.

and many, many hugs back at ya.

10. Should I start a web site "Misogynists for Hillary"
I can start off the page by apologizing for being a male. There could be forums for how white guys and especially graying white guys can talk with metrosexuals about how even women can do stuff, yunno...

PLEASE forgive me! Whaaaaah...

13. If you'd really like to know what was going on,
a peek at Jane Hamsher's write up,over at firedoglake
http://www.firedoglake.com/2007/08/06/yearly-kos-and-the-myth-of-the-white-male/

is a good place to start. She was there and a spark plug for the whole affair.

Clear, Concise.

That is half the reason a lot of us are online, because it is practically free. YearlyKos costs money. Travel, food, lodging, and fees.

21. Well, I'm female, and I was there. I can't BELIEVE you're launching
an anti-YearlyKos campaign here. You do know that next year it will be called Netroots Nation, right? Markos knows it has outgrown his site. And I think his site is more appealing to males overall. Let's make next convention more diverse. Still, it was quite expensive to go there, so that is a factor also.

27. I am a kos member but I don't get the site structure. DU is much easier.
I guess it really forces people into the Diary format. My thoughts don't come like that so it doesn't make sense for me to participate much. I just read.

26. I don't see it as anti-yearly kos. I think that is taking it to the extreme.
Kos is clearly a Pro-Edwards shop so it makes sense they'd be anti-Clinton. Just like DU is ABC anyone but Clinton.

Luckily I support all the candidates against ANY Republican.
