I have been wanting to think there is some kind of bigger thought or plan behind the Democratic votes for FISA. Now I have never been one to condemn any representative over a few votes that I don't agree with. I have always looked at overall ratings when I evaluate a representative. In fact I expect a representative I support to vote in ways I don't agree with on occasion. That's why I also say you should never fall in love with a politician as they will eventually break your heart.
So I have been watching and reading (and in some cases agitating) the outrage over the FISA vote over the weekend. I have also been wanting to think that the outrage is coming from some of the shriller voices in and out of the party. But I've been reading lots of articles in not just liberal blogs, but even in the MSM expressing disapproval and even outrage in what happened with the FISA vote. I even saw an RSS headline that I can't find again that claimed "Bush Outmaneuvers Democrats". Then I hear on WJ this morning people echoing not only the same sentiments on FISA but also on many other issues such as issues important to working people.
I think what finally hit me hard was one WJ caller of unknown party affiliation mentioned he would support a Bloombert/Hagel independent ticket followed by the seemingly sincere 70-something woman that had been voting Democratic for 50+ years emotionally expressing how upset she was in general with the party.
All I can say is I hope the party leadership is listening. I hope they all, especially the Democrats that voted for FISA, get a big earfull when they are home this weekend. I hope they listen and take everything they hear to heart while they are getting their butts chewed out because people are pissed. People are not just pissed over the FISA vote. The FISA vote just coagulated the anger. If the Democrats were going to screw up on one vote, the FISA vote was the absolutely worst one to screw up on. People are pissed in general about damn near everything.
So if our representatives are going to keep this country intact, and not engulfed in some kind of anarchy, chaos and revolution, they damn well better listen, take their medicine, then go back in September and actually stand up, and not be afraid to do the right thing.
