Obama says he doesn't trade favors for endorsements? Au contraire
Edited on Thu Aug-02-07 10:50 PM by rinsd
Announcing that he had recently secured the endorsement of Rep. Hodes of NH, Obama decided to do what has come naturally to him. Accuse him opponents of what he himself was doing.

"We haven't been in Washington all that long and we haven't traded that many favors," Obama said."

Hmmmmmmm strong words.

http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070729/COLUMNISTS12/207290411

"For his part, Hodes denied reports that did circulate within rival campaigns that Obama promised to deliver much of his vaunted database of nationwide campaign donors in exchange for the endorsement.

“There was never such a discussion; there is no deal. I find the suggestion offensive and insulting both to the senator and to me,’’ Hodes said.

“I am not for sale, and I can only imagine it is being pushed by other campaigns. I don’t know where it is coming from.’’

It will take months and a lot of research to determine if Obama donations translate into dollars for Hodes.

One thing is indisputable: Obama himself already had kicked in. On June 28, the Obama-controlled Hope Fund gave the Hodes Re-election Committee the maximum $5,000 donation.

A day later, Obama’s PAC kicked in the same amount for fellow freshman Democratic Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter.

Clinton’s HillPAC has yet to donate to either New Hampshire incumbent."

A database, the max cash allowed, and a seat as national co-chair giving great exposure and networking opportunities to a freshman Congressman.

"We haven't been in Washington all that long and we haven't traded that many favors," Obama said."

Don't be so modest Obama.

3. So why do Obama's words in the body not match your subject line?
Edited on Thu Aug-02-07 10:56 PM by Kagemusha
"haven't traded that many favors" doesn't seem identical to "doesn't trade favors". If what Obama said was such strong words, why did you rewrite them?

If you have a problem with the words he did speak, I'm completely fine with that.

5. Honest principled criticism seems at an ebb with Obama supporter.
I have been reluctant to attack a fellow Democrat. But enough is enough.

6. ...Uh okay. Whatever you have against Obama supporters, I don't wanna know.
If that's your reason for going after the guy like you did, that's sad, but I will not be doing this board any good by criticizing your choice. Goodday.

8. Fair Enough, But Some Sense of Proportion is Needed
That is like Republicans arguing that Enron gave to Democratic congressman, too.

Sure it is technically true, but any sense of decency would keep you mum, because it hardly represents an accurate depiction of the situation.

is, generally, one of the more reasonable contributors to GD-P.

EDIT: The spate of recent anti-Obama threads notwithstanding...

12. Seems like every time a negative post about Obama is in GD:P
the original poster has a Hillary avatar. I'm actually quite surprised when he/she doesn't.
