3. How about actual direct election of the President?
Now there's a novel idea. Right now it's possible that with the EC votes of only 11 states (CA, FL, GA, IL, MI, NJ, NY, NC, OH, PA, and TX) can yield the 271 EC votes necessary to win.

The argument that candidates would only concentrate on big states and big cities is already the case. And they never bother to go to states they know they don't have a chance of carrying under the current system. I'm so sick of my vote not counting, as a Democrat in Republican Kansas, and I'm still so furious at they way the Kerry campaign got Kansans to go across the state line to campaign for him while not a single Missouri resident seems to have come in the other direction to help out Democrats over here, that I will never again vote in the presidential column until we have direct election of the President.

5. I totally agree with you.
I'm old enough to have voted in three Presidential elections so far. In North Carolina I voted for Clinton in 1996 and Gore in 2000, and in Georgia I voted for Kerry in 2004. I'm so sick of my vote for President not counting in our current winner-take-all system.

The electoral college has long outlived its usefulness. It's past time for it to be abolished.

8. Trouble is, it won't be...
...abolished before 2008...so this is a way to 'win at all costs' for Republicans.

9. Jesus Christ, I hope Democrats defeat this
this amounts to nothing more than stealing some electoral votes from a state Republicans KNOW they can't win...

If this would pass, then Democrats should do the same in Ohio & Florida...

Democrats cannot sit idle on this at all...
