'Kerry scandal woman reveals all to TV station'

By James Langton, Evening Standard, in New York
16 February 2004

The young woman at the centre of the sex scandal allegations against presidential hopeful John Kerry has recorded a tell-all interview for an American TV station.

Reporter Alexandra Polier is said to have given the interview with a major US network before Christmas - but the channel has held back from showing it until it can verify that her claims are true.

1. What are the Evening Standard's politics? Tory or Labour?

I have no idea, but it's important to know the source.

2. I don't know so I can't say
Guardian and Independent are liberal, Telegraph and Times are right-wing. Can't say with this one.

7. Where are the Limeys when you need 'em?

My Dear British DUers:

This is meant as humour only and should in no way be interpreted as a slur upon the people of that 'sceptred isle,' being as I am myself of quite recent British ancestry.

Your advise upon the matter of the aforementioned newspaper's political slant would be much appreciated.

God save the Queen!

15. Brit reporting for Duty!
Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 07:29 AM by Thankfully_in_Britai
The London Evening Standard is a bit establishment in its political leanings. It was Tory, changed to Labour with Blair in 1997, is not fond of Ken Livingstone and is owned by the same people who own the Daily Mail (a well known UK tory tabloid loathed by many of us DU Brits).

On the good side, they do have Will Self as a colummist. Plus as it is the only major(ish) rag that comes out in the evenings it does tend to set the tone for how everyone else reports things the next morning.

20. I'd call the Guardian Social Democratic. It's not Liberal in the UK sense.

3. The Washington Post
is running a story in today's edition on the media coverage of the allegations. It went to press before this latest information (still unconfirmed), but it will open the floodgates for those who have been reluctant to touch the story in the media.

The Post is a major paper, and many others freely quote them on a regular basis.

11. If you mean the W. Times, that is a right wing outlet
(see GD Primary 2004 rules). They do have a story on it today.

5. Or perhaps they are waiting until it can do the most damage?
Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 05:57 AM by Devils Advocate NZ
Or, as they would say if exposed "until ratings would be maximised" - for instance during the general election.

Editted to add:

If you think about it, what is happening now is the perfect set up. First "leak" the allegations so Kerry and all the Dems and Dem supporters can deny it and nominate Kerry anyway, then when the general election starts release the "proof" and not only hang Kerry, but the rest of the Dem party for supporting him...

6. Gee, do they think we are idiots???
"but the channel has held back from showing it until it can verify that her claims are true."

Um, NO the fuckers are holding back until we officially crown Kerry our nominee and then they are going to sucker punch him with it!

I can't even describe how sickened I am by the media today. What the hell happened to "journalism"?

18. No one is "crowned" as our nominee until the convention
Your suggestion for holding back does not hold water. Sorry.

19. Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them - Page 3
Isn't this whole pattern (Drudge to Fox Rush to Wash Times) just standard operating procedure of the right wing????

Franken re Fox News Washington Times, New York Post, Editorial pages of WSJ,Talk Radio:

"The members of the right-wing media . . .employ a tried-and-true methodology. First, they concoct an imflammatory story that serves their political goals. . .They repeat it. . .They embellish it. . .They try to push it into the mainstream media. All too often they suceed. . .Occasionally, they fail. . .But even thier failures serve their agenda, as evidence of liberal bias. Win-win. You got to admit. It's a good racket."

Kerry was front-runner for the Democratic nomination to take on George Bush in November.
His hopes were hit as hints of a scandal emerged."

What - are the Republicans going to pay off Zogby to have Kerry sink in the polls?
