Is there any candidate you absolutely won't vote for in the general
election? I have seen a few say this about different candidates (yes, not just Hillary either <grin>) and would like to know how widespread this is right now.

No condemnation at all from me, I'm just curious which candidates you will not vote for no matter what and why you feel this way.

2. I can't see myself voting for any Republicans at all, except maybe Ron Paul : )
and yes I know the issues Ron Paul is wrong on. Actually I wouldn't vote for him in the general either, but I do think he deserves recognition as a rare honest-to-principles Republican.

23. And if Kucinich is not the nominee
will you then stay at home?

I hope that you will reconsider, just think about the Supreme Court. There will be at least one vacancy in the next few years; Stevens is 87 years old! Are you ready to give up on our rights? On our existence as a democracy?

Are you willing to give up on timetable to withdrawal from Iraq and on stem cells research that will be vetoed by the next Republican president?

so if an election does occur I might as well vote for whoever my heart tells me too. probably the green candidate.

I just don't trust her. She hasn't convinced me she cares about people. But I will vote for her in the general if she is nominated.I am honestly trying to like her, but something tells me I shouldn't have to try this hard! LOL!

5. yes
the ones with an "R" behind their name. I used to be more open minded about the idea (although I have never voted "R" for President in history), but they have squandered that.

Otherwise, no - I like some more than others, but all more than the Right. Ron Paul is almost tolerable, but not quite. The rest are a nightmare, not to mention the SCOTUS stacking which would happen.

8. I will absolutely not vote for
whomever the republicans nominate and whatever dumbass third party yahoo decides to enter the race to soothe their ego.

A vote for a democratic nominee is not only a vote for that person but a vote for a cadre of professionals who will descend upon Washington to rid the capitol of the stench of crime. Even if the next dem administration has its share of corruption nothing will compare to the damage that bush and his band of pirates have wrought and will continue to inflict upon our country until their last day in office. I can not find any rationale for not voting for the dem nominee (and his/her team.)

20. The worst Democratic nominee is still a THOUSAND TIMES BETTER
than the best Republican.

Republicans can't govern. Republicans can't legislate. Republicans can't handle natural disasters.
Republicans can't fight wars. Republicans can't fight crime.

Republicans suck a big one.

Etc.

10. In the GE? Hillary Clinton.
Edited on Tue Jul-24-07 01:28 PM by Totally Committed
Also: Bill Richardson & Christopher Dodd (both DLC), and Joe Biden (plagarist a**hole).

If no other(s) enter(s) the primaries, I will probably cast a symbolic vote for Kucinich. None of the above would get my vote in the primaries, either, for the reasons stated.

12. I have my favorites but
I would vote for any Democratic nominee. I don't care if they nominate Satan himself for the post, I will not vote for a Republican or Third Party Ego candidate in this election.

I voted Republican in 2002, I know I know... Since then I've voted straight Democratic in Federal elections and I can't see myself changing that anytime soon.

15. Rethugs are a definite no-go for me
If Hillary is the Dem nominee, I will vote for her, even if I have to hold my nose while I'm doing it. Obama, Edwards, Dodd, or Richardson would be acceptable choices for me. Biden bothers me, mostly because of his vote on the bankruptcy bill, and the fact that he's a total blowhard. Kucinich and Gravel have no chance of getting the nomination. Did I forget anyone?

I really wish Gore and/or Kerry were in the race. :(

16. i will not vote for any corporate right or corporate left candidate
you can easily spot them by following the money ... you can also spot them by their vote for the invasion of Iraq and their numerous subsequent votes to fund it ... you can also spot them by their huge leads in money raised from K Street ... you can also spot them by the policies they advocate such as massive military spending, health care "solutions" that are in bed with the insurance lobby, and a complete failure to make campaign finance reform a central plank in their campaigns.

if we ever want to see power restored to the people, and it won't happen anytime soon, we have to stop being held hostage by the pro-corporate crowd. the corporate right is NOT the same as the corporate left; there are real and important differences. but, in the end, neither will produce the changes we so desperately need. to continue to empower either of these treasonous gangs will deprive all Americans of a government that truly acts in their best interests ...

so, to answer the OP's question, I will not vote, ever again, for any candidate of the corporate right or of the corporate left. that goes for the primary; that goes for the general.

22. In the primary...
Edited on Tue Jul-24-07 02:00 PM by Hell Hath No Fury
there is only one candidate I will vote for.

I won't be voting for the others because I do not believe they are the type of leader I want (Hillary), they don't have the stands on the issues I am looking for (Dodd, Biden, Gravel, Edwards, Hillary, Richardson, Obama) and they do not inspire my trust (Hillary/Obama).

It's a refreshing change to have a candidate to enthusiastically actually vote FOR instead of settling for the lesser evil.

In the general, I will not vote for Hillary Clinton. I live in blue CA, so I may write in my Democratic candidate of choice.

28. I will not vote for most of them.
I will not vote for DLC candidates, which drops several right out the gate:

Clinton, Edwards, Richardson, Dodd, Biden.

That leaves Obama, Kucinich, and Gravel.

Obama? He is eloquent. Everything he says sounds intelligent, well-thought out, even if you don't agree with it. And I don't. Much of what he says is also without substance. Great words, with nothing concrete underneath to back it up, in record or plan.

My first impression of Obama left me scratching my head. At that speech at the '04 convention, that tugged the heart strings of so many, I was left thinking that the whole convention, and Obama along with it, was too pro-war to me; trying to outdo republicans on nationalism during war time. What he said did not move me; it was ok, but not moving. What gave me the creeps was the response of the audience, and his fan base since then, as if something magical was flying out of his mouth. I don't feel the magic.

Not only do I not feel the magic, I directly oppose too many of his stances. I oppose leaving nuclear power on the table, and I think that creating more nuclear waste that we don't know how to dispose of is a crucial issue.

I oppose his stance on public education. While he tries to be the "kinder, gentler" teacher blamer, as an educator, I know what to listen for. He has repeatedly suggested that my profession is not doing a good enough job, which I will challenge on principle. He supports merit pay for teachers. That right there loses any chance that he'll ever get my vote.

There's more. His disingenuous "I was against the war from the beginning," while fully funding it and delaying withdrawal, makes me want to :puke:.

His inclusion of for-profit corporations at the "health care table" and his refusal to mandate universal health care lose me on that issue. I could go on, but just these things make me angry enough, and make me distrustful enough, to say that he won't get my vote.

That leaves Gravel and Kucinich. Kucinich already has the best platform, so I have no problem giving him my primary vote. It's unlikely that either of these men will be on the ticket in the general election, which means that, for the first time in 30 years of voting, I won't vote for a Democrat in the presidential election.

I'm not here to argue the point; that's just the way it is.

Since you asked.

Though if I lived in a state where it was going to be close I might vote for Hillary based purely on the SCOTUS issue.Thankfully,I live in Mass and have a lot of voting maneuverability.
