Edwards set to ride with Armstrong
REGISTER STAFF REPORT
July 22, 2007
Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards plans to ride part of the route of the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa on Wednesday morning with Lance Armstrong. The former North Carolina senator plans to start riding in Hampton and greet people at several stops, aides said. The time and exact stops had not been announced at press time.
Edwards' campaign said his RAGBRAI appearance will kick off a two-day visit to Iowa.
Several other campaigns said their candidates may have a presence on the ride, but no details had been announced as of Friday. Republican Mitt Romney's sons are likely to join the ride toward the end of the trip, and Democrat Chris Dodd may schedule an event along the route in eastern Iowa,
campaign aides said.
An Armstrong aide said he would welcome any presidential candidates who want to ride with him. Edwards is the first to take Armstrong up on the offer, the aide said.

(I remember February 1988, when then candidate Bruce Babbit and his wife participated in the BUR ride in Iowa, at a wind chill of -35!)
