Kerry objects to Mark Green as ambassador

Associated Press — 7/14/2007 9:01 am

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Former U.S. Rep. Mark Green's nomination to become the ambassador of Tanzania hit a snag on Friday because of Democratic opposition.

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., placed a "hold" on the nomination, because Green, a Green Bay Republican, is a political appointee and not a career foreign service officer, a Kerry aide said.

A hold is an informal practice that happens when a senator tells the floor leader he or she does not want a measure to reach the Senate floor for consideration.

President Bush nominated Green for the post last month, and the president has the power to bypass the Senate and advance Green's nomination as a recess appointment.

5. Ried has a new plan to have mini-sessions to prevent recess appointments.
He's going to have more small sessions to feel the gap and keep Bush from being allowed to recess appoint. Sounds good to me.

Sen. Harry Reid, leading the Senate’s new Democratic majority, is framing next year’s schedule in a way that will make it difficult, if not impossible, for President Bush to give recess appointments to nominees blocked for confirmation

3. He's kind of alone in that one from the local paper article I read
even Feingold thinks it's okay.

I wonder what Kerry's beef is.

7. That he's a political crony instead of a pro in the foriegn service. AT least that's
what the article said.

4. I was glad to read that, too
Green is a true Bush Clone. And has no scruples. But just watch him get recess-appointed anyway. :(

9. I guess I'm still mad about his campaign for governor last fall.
You know, the typical Rovian kind: lying, smearing, distorting, etc etc.

11. I approve of sending this fool to the far side of the world.
Only good thing he ever did was trash the statewide Republican party with his gov. bid.
