'Famous' folks with Viet Nam draft deferments:
Recipients of draft deferments during the Vietnam War era. Note that some of these men enlisted in the armed forces despite a deferment.
(Like Al Gore)

A total of 1,857,304 men were drafted between August 1964 and February 1973, drawing from the pool of men born on or before 1955.

2. Ali?
Ali was drafted and refused induction. He went to jail. He is a hero for that.

3. Mohammed Ali was a Consciencious Objector...
He was willing to give up his occupation and championship for it. I doubt any of those others can say the same thing.

BTW -- Bill Clinton had multiple exemptions from that war.

4. this is crap
lots of us had deferments

there were myriad reasons

student deferments, 'critical jobs', service in the Guard, even early on there was a deferment if you were married

Having a deferment is not necessarily equated with "draft dodging'

My student deferment ended when I graduated; by that time being married no longer got a deferment, nor did being a parent, nor did a 'critical job' - all of which were the case for me, but not as overt attempts to avoid the draft.

I reported for the physical with every expectation of being in 'Nam within a couple of months. I was deferred for health reasons. Didn't ask for it, didn't seek it, didn't use someone else's urine to get it. I just had borderline blood pressure.

So I belong on your list. That does not make me a draft dodging chickehawk. Get some facts on each and every one before publishing such a list as if it had any meaning.

5. With all due respect,
I don't think that you are the one with whom the OP is concerned. The reason for the list is to show hypocrisy. These neo-cons beating the war drums are acting like military strategists, sending men and women to war, yet they have never experienced the horrors of war or even served. If you were out promoting the illegal war in Iraq, you would need to be there I suppose, but that was not the point of the list. To me, it is to point out hypocrisy.

6. but it doesn't say that, does it?
It presents a list, with Muhammed Ali the second entry, as if the list in and of itself is a "shit list"

Perhaps the reader is supposed to discern that being on the list is only bad if you are a chickenhawk, but the presentation is more like demagoguery - like GWB chanting "card-carrying member of the A-C-L-U" as a supposed condemnation
