Flame this public confession if you must
Edited on Sat Jul-14-07 04:56 PM by DeadElephant_ORG
but I am one who supported the invasion. I figured Bush and Co knew things about Iraqi nukes that I couldn't know. I knew the war would go badly, and that we would inflame hatred and increase terrorism. But the short-term imperative of disarming Iraq trumped other considerations. I believed Bush for two reasons: 1.) If he was lying, so I thought, his administration would crumble the moment the lie came to light. And 2.) NOBODY would lie about nuclear weapons... would they?

Four years and half-a-million deaths later, my innocence gone, I am determined to do my part to bring and end to this catastrophic mistake, and to hold those lying SOBs to account. Last weekend the New York Times called for the US to leave Iraq "without further delay". And yesterday Bill O'Rielly contradicted Tony Snow and acknowledged that the war cannot be won. http://rawstory.com/news/2007/OReilly_takes_on_Tony_Snow_You_0713.html They're extreme hypocrites, obviously. But I thank them anyway.

4. Even if they had had nuclear weapons
they would not have been insane enough to attack your country. I can't understand why Americans scare so easily and keep on falling for it. Yeller alert! Purple alert! Orange alert! Why aren't you just laughing?

On the other hand I would be VERY AFRAID of your own government. For one thing Dick Cheney is totally insane and very dangerous and he seems to call the shots!

6. I know people just like you
who supported the invasion based on the "evidence". These people weren't conservatives or Bush supporters, either.

After it became apparent that the "evidence" was false, one said "I feel like a jilted lover." Lies and betrayals lead to contempt. And contempt is what they feel.

8. What hurts most is the betraying of that trust especially considering the troops
K&R Please don't feel bad...confession is good for the soul! Believe me I hate war 'growing up during Viet Nam' but once it started I was praying everything would turn out for the best. I was even a Faux news viewer at that time. O'Reilly was my favorite ,till I saw how he treated the son of a 911 victim. That did it, I only see faux & bullies as they are now! I will not have any respect for Oreilly till he apologizes to Jeremy Glick, the 911 families and the world for all the lies that led us to where we are now! Outfoxed: Bill O'Reilly attacks 9/11 victim's son http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IwIRNM5noY

12. Thanks should be given because BushCo allowed the wheels to fall off the wagon
I believe that since 2000 a huge dose of undeniable 'reality' woke up a lot of folks. Especially, those who would never dare or dream of challenging an authority figure. A fog that had kept some division between the average thinking person and the ‘powers to be’ has forever vanished. I remember chuckling as I watched TV when a presidential advisor complained that this administration had allowed the wheels to fall of the wagon. Meaning to me, the ‘genie was let out of the bottle’, the horse got out of the barn, or whatever best describes that we will never view Washington in the same light again. Many of my acquaintances fell silent for a very long time before they would acknowledge that something was terribly wrong.

13. fair question.

I was not familiar with George's history. I think now that Cheney's history is probably more relevant, though I did not know that either. I did have particular trust for Colin Powell, and the fact that he would lay his reputation on the line for this was definitely persuasive to me. His reputation is now deservedly destroyed. But, as I said, it wasn't really that I didn't recognize that these were evil men. What led me to grant them the benefit of the doubt was that I didn't believe that anybody could get away with such a consequential lie. And what is most radicalizing to me now is that the American people have to date allowed the liars to pass.
