“Ella perserveró y vino. Un aplauso para ella”, dijo el asambleísta de El Bronx José Rivera que junto a la organización ‘Hispanic Federation’ organizaron un foro comunitario donde invitaron a legisladores estatales, concejales y candidatos demócratas presidenciales para darles a conocer los temas claves de la lucha de la comunidad latina. Hillary habló primero de educación, salud, hasta llegar a inmigración, el gran tema de la tarde, tras el estancamiento del proceso en el Senado el jueves.



“La propuesta de ley de reforma migratoria no está muerta, está con respiración asistida. Ayer (por el jueves) estuve hasta la medianoche en el Senado y no vi a nadie de la Casa Blanca que estuviera presionando para que pasaran la propuesta, como otras veces lo han hecho con otros temas. El presidente habla, pero no lo convierte en realidad”, dijo Hillary Clinton.



Para la senadora Clinton, que se comprometió a realizar un debate de los candidatos con los medios en español, hay que luchar contra el aumento del sentimiento antiinmigrante. “Están echando la culpa de los problemas de este país a los inmigrantes, cuando en el problema es la situación económica”, afirmó. “Hay que hacerles entender que esto no es una amnistía y ver si al final es mejor pasar algo que nada, porque hay muchas enmiendas. Debemos llegar a un compromiso donde no separemos a las familias, donde apoyemos el ‘Dream Act’ para los estudiantes indocumentados”, dijo la senadora.

The second part was meant to be "No, not if Mr. Dobbs and others are able to stop the Dream Bill by their actions." Which would be my translation of my "Not if the Dream Bill can stop itself by the actions of Mr. Dobbs and others," choosing the reflexive for the second part.

10. That dimmed subjunctive: pagar, changes to e from the a, hence,

"paguen" instead of "pagan", the normal form, the u has to follow the g to make the g hard instead of sounding like an h in English, since the g would follow an e.

The worst part of Spanish for English speakers, at least for me.

I think I write it better than I speak it, as everyone, everywhere makes fun of my accent, regardless of their native accent!

She is pandering, as are many Democrats, on an issue (immigration) in which the American people may not be willing to go along with.

The GOP is demagoguing immigration as an issue of amnesty, while the Democrats are really not sure how to pander to the Latino community without offending those precious independents we waste so much time and efford on.

Perhaps it is best to say that we will enforce the laws that are already on the books, and add that no country in the world can survive with porous borders and illegal immigration.

It would also help if we were truthful and discussed how neoliberal policies pursued by Democratic and Republican Administrations in Latin America have contributed to the flood of economic refugees in our country.
