I am in FW, TX and have come to learn that HClinton will be fundraising at Joe T Garcia's, a rather famous restaurant/margarita joint here in town. Problem is, my sister just got a summer job there as a waitress and says the way they run their books and pay their employees leaves a bit to be desired. The biggest issue i see is that the owners of the place have refused over the years to pay their wait staff an hourly wage($2.15 minimum, i believe is the law). She works solely on tips and is not given a take home check, as required by law. Just to verify the law my mum(sister still lives at home) called the TX Workforce Commission and she was told that the employers are indeed required to pay at least the $2.15. My mother asked them what she could do about it and the Commission rep said not much...TX workers have virtually NO worker rights/protection laws on the books(surprise surprise). They said she could file a complaint, lose her job as a result, and go from there. Not worth it considering it's just a summer gig and she does make good $$$.
It's amazing to me that such an well established restaurant can operate their business in such a way. There are other stories as well that i couldn't believe regarding treatment of employees, but none that seemed to so arrogantly break as law as this example.
Anyway, i was hoping to fill the Clinton campaign in on this (would they even care...tend to doubt it, although one can hope). Does a fundraiser like this have it's organization locally or is it all taken care of by the campaign big wigs in Washington/New York?
Thanks in advance.
