Hey Scooter supporters, imagine if Libby had blow up all our U-2s
The Cuban Missile Crisis began when our U-2 surveillance planes discovered the Soviets building ICBM silos in Cuba. You know, Weapons of Mass Destruction on rocket engines, pointed towards us.

What a very senior Bush Administration official did (probably Cheney) was destroy for political reasons our covert intelligence operation looking for the production of weapons of mass destruction that could be mounted on rocket engines.

That is like, in 1961, a Very Senior Administration Official walking into an Air Force base and planting thermite bombs in all of the U-2 stationed there, then claiming that because we don't know that Cuba doesn't have nukes, we have to invade.

And Libby is the guy protecting the guy planting the thermite.

So how the hell can you support him?!?!?

1. Hey Scooter supporters, if you discover that the shanigans
resulted in the death of a half dozen covert US operatives, are you still thrilled with Libby's treatsonous behaviour?

2. Per conservatives, libby committed a crime against the country, not the party
so all is well. Joe Wilson told the truth, thereby committing a crime against the republican party and a crime against the party is much more egregious then a crime against the country per the conservatives in this country. Just like in the old USSR.

4. Treason!!
The Wikipedia article on treason contains the following...
In law, treason is the crime of disloyalty to one's nation. A person who betrays the nation of their citizenship and/or reneges on an oath of loyalty and in some way willfully cooperates with an enemy, is considered to be a traitor."

In the "willfully cooperates with an enemy" section, we're looking at the Neocons and their anti-American agenda.
I read many of the support letters that were written to the judge.
So he's a hard worker and devoted to his family...BFD!
We must consider his crimes in a vacuum.
What he did was wrong (and bordering on treason-IMHO).

I sincerely hope he doesn't get the Oliver North "wrap him in the flag and pardon him" treatment!

5. Alas
the US Constitution provides the only relevant definition of treason, not Wikipedia.

7. Oh, there are always a few Freepers and such lurking
This is for them, and to provide what I hope is a decent perspective of what he did, and what he's covering up.

9. Care to explain that a little?
I'm confused. Maybe my tinfoil hat is too tight or sumptin'.

But Bush/Cheney/Rove did destroy an expensive, difficult-to-replace intelligence-gathering operation that was dedicated to seeking out secret activities by nations to build nuclear weapons.

It is roughly the equivilent of someone destroying the U-2 fleet that was keeping Cuba under surveillence after Castro seized power and got really friendly with the USSR.

If, say, JFK or LBJ had ordered a covert domestic operation by a loyal FBI or Air Force agent to plant bombs in the U-2 fleet to intentionally destroy the intelligence-gathering operation (and maybe kill a few pilots as well) and then their senior staffers covered up for them, it would have been a giant scandal ending in impeachment and trials for treason.
