If they are smart, Clinton, Edwards and Obama
during their "faith" discussion on CNN later this evening, will make a comment that, no doubt, Biden, Dodd, Gravel, Kucinich and Richardson have their own faith based values and that they hope that they will have a chance to discuss them - if they are interested.

11. Shh! CNN doesn't want people to realize there ARE others in the race.

2. Fuck faith
I don't care if they have it, or if they don't. Have they any politics to speak of? Can they help make a better world here, in 2009?

3. An attitude less justifiable with reference to politics than it is elsewhere.

When choosing a candidate - as opposed to when choosing a president - one of the two key questions is "can they win election", and what they have to say about their faith will make a big difference to that.

8. Yes, but look at how many elections he's won.
If you pick a candidate who cannot convince the electorate that they have faith, then the Republicans will win the next election.

Faith doesn't help one govern well, but it does enable one to win elections in the USA.

5. No, fuck their faith
Voters are entitled to a leader who makes the right decisions, not someone who thinks the great sky-demon will whisk them up if stuff turns out too bad.

To Hell with faith.

6. Fuck Faith indeed

Willful ignorance...

Nothing against the faithful - they are every bit capable of leading this country.

But faith itself - is not a virtue for me.

9. It is in a political candidate (or at least, being able to convince people you have it is).

In most people, looking and sounding respectable isn't a virtue, but I wouldn't vote for someone who looked like a hippy to be a presidential candidate, not because they wouldn't be able to govern, but because they wouldn't be able to win election (it wouldn't influence me if I were voting for president, though).

Likewise, the Democrats have to pick a candidate who will be able to convince the electorate that they have faith, or they will lose. Whether or not they really do have faith is technically irrelevant, but in practice I suspect it's something it's hard to lie about convincingly.
