Biden on funding troops
Edited on Mon Jun-04-07 07:27 AM by Red Knight
So...if we fund troops we're helping them by.....letting them stay in Iraq and get killed. If we don't fund this occupation we leave no money for withdrawl? Doubtful. And the bill DID fund the troops. With timetables. All Bush had to do was sign it. Biden just fed this ridiculous Republican talking point about Dems cutting off funds are spitting on the troops and not supporting them, when he should have stressed that FUNDING this disaster further puts our troops at further risk.

If you walk like a Republican, talk like a Republican...well, you might as well be one.

1. He didn't say that at all
In fact, he refused to criticise the other candidates for their vote. He was just giving his honest opinion. He has worked extremely hard on getting more Mine Resistant Vehicles to the troops, and, although the politically expedient choice was to vote against the bill, he couldn't bring himself to do it.

You disagree with him. Many here do. No doubt it will greatly hurt him in the primaries. But he knew it would, yet he remained true to his principles on this.

There was no pretence. There was no skulking in at the last minute. He came out 48 hours before the vote and publically told everybody how he was voting.

Many disagreed with him. Even I disagreed with him.

It does not make him a Republican.

4. I find it amusing at these people like to call democrats "Republicans"
I lived in Pennsylvania and I had Rick Santorum as my senator for 8 years. In 2001 I moved to Delaware and Joe Biden is now my senator.

Trust me - there is a difference, a very very very big difference. I think anyone would rather have Joe Biden as their senator over Rick Santorum. Hell I'd take Joe Lieberman over Santorum.

Criticism of democrats is good but name calling is probably the most unproductive thing. Joe Biden is without a doubt a democrat and a damn good one. I won't support him in the primaries but would have no problem supporting him if he gets the nomination.

2. Don't forget that Biden is the only one with a plan to get out of
Iraq. IMHO it is the only sensible plan.

3. I disagree with you. I think Biden is right.
I was against going into Iraq long before Shrub actually DID! I want SHRUB to have the courage to contact Maliki and say "Look, we got rid of your Dictator for you, we tried to rebuild was was destroyed during that process and your native people keep destroying the new structures. I'M going to issue an order beginning to withdraw our troops beginning July 1st, so YOU better gather YOUR leaders together and explain they're losing their 'shields' and they have no choice now but to step up and fight for theier OWN Country!"

HOWEVER!!! I do NOT want any of the personnel Shrub sent into harms way to be hindered in ANY WAY BECAUSE of our OWN Dictator's stubborness!

Sorry folks, but I don't trust our little Dictator AT ALL! Biden is right. The Dems DID send Shrub the funding, and he refused to sign it, not because it wasn't enough funding, but beause HE was NOT going to be told what to do by ANYBODY! Could they have sent it back? Sure, but remember exactly what Shrub and all the Pubs were saying about the first bill. "It's the DEMS who are not funding the troops! THEY want us to tip our hand and tell the enemy when we are leaving,k and I just won't let that happen!" I'm firmly convinced, if we had continued to send the same original funding bill back to Shrub, between the NEDIA and the VERY VOCAL Pubs would have convinced the general public that "it's those damn cut & run Dems who are harming our fighting men and women!"

Without the 67 votes, Congress CAN'T WIN THIS!
