"just another year, just stay the course"
Remember this statement bringing up Vietnam from December 2005....

Stay a little longer, just another year

"I've seen this before in my life. This is the same situation we had in Vietnam. Everybody then kept saying, 'just another year, just stay the course, we'll have a victory.' Well, we didn't have a victory, and this policy cost the lives of an additional 25,000 troops because we were too stubborn to recognize what was happening."

Well, now this.
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N31220099.htm

The September report is widely viewed as a watershed for the unpopular U.S.-led war, with Democrats and some Republicans saying they could back a troop withdrawal absent evidence of progress.

"Right now if you asked me, I would tell you I'll probably need a little bit more time to do a true assessment," Odierno said at a Pentagon news briefing where he appeared via video link from Iraq.

"I will provide my assessment to Gen. Petraeus who will then take that forward," he said. "If I think I might need a little more time, I will give an assessment saying that I'd like to have more time."

"That will be part of the assessment that I make," Odierno added.

He declined to say how much extra time he might need: "We still have ... 90 to 100 days until Labor Day." The U.S. Labor Day holiday is Sept. 3."

They will keep moving the time they need.

We can not keep playing this game.

1. Yep, and the end of the year is just another 120 days, so let's give it till
the end of the year...oh, and we'll need another $100 billion in emergency funding, too.

And then come January, it will be something else.

The Democrats need to shut this down now. But, I fear, they won't.

It's just a number and a comma, right? :sarcasm:

6. Bush thumping his chest, saying "I am the president"....
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/5/31/161550/279

Friends of his from Texas were shocked recently to find him nearly wild-eyed, thumping himself on the chest three times while he repeated "I am the president!" He also made it clear he was setting Iraq up so his successor could not get out of "our country's destiny."

McJoan weighs in:

The only way out of Iraq is to force him out of Iraq, take the keys away, and stop his allowance.

3. This has been going on for
a while. Remember how it was six months to a year until we could leave? Well it still is. Like the rabbit at a dog race, it can't be caught, they keep moving it.

5. Vietnam war casualties
http://www.vietnam-war.info/casualties/

"The lowest casualty estimates, based on the now-renounced North Vietnamese statements, are around 1.5 million Vietnamese killed. Vietnam released figures on April 3, 1995 that a total of one million Vietnamese combatants and four million civilians were killed in the war. The accuracy of these figures has generally not been challenged. 58,226 American soldiers also died in the war or are missing in action. Australia lost almost 500 of the 47,000 troops they had deployed to Vietnam and New Zealand lost 38 soldiers."

We have a ways to go to get to 58,000.

and McCain said awhile back that '10, 20 years, that's not so bad...' quoted in a Bob Herbert column Heads In The Sand in the NYT Sept 3, 2004

"When asked this week on CNN how long the U.S. military is likely to remain in Iraq, Senator John McCain replied "probably" 10 or 20 years. "That's not so bad," ...

McCain and the rest of the GOP field of fools promoting Pee Wee's Iraq Adventure need to be held accountable. Show them ALL the door in '08.

8. I fear that many in our party agree we are to stay.
I think the oil is more important than lives. I hate to think that, I have had great faith our party would change things.

I think they will use the pottery barn rule to stay.

The sad part if they don't really need the money of the activists as big money is gravitating their way.

They only need us at election time, and they know we have nowhere else to go.

I have been living on the phone, and I am getting that feeling.

9. Then we are witnessing the destruction of the US military
Edited on Sat Jun-02-07 11:31 AM by EVDebs
since recruitments into this fiasco will REQUIRE a draft...and that's sure political suicide. So, it's now just a 'waiting game' until the truth sinks into the M/I/Congressional complex. They're really not that dense, are they ? Besides, even Bush's Base can read the Bible when you point things out to them, such as Matthew 10 : 14 and Galatians 6 : 7-8

At a minimum, redeployment to Gulf War I staging areas (Kuwait etc) would staunch the wounds militarily and financially.
