I just got off the blower with a well-known NJ Dem Person.
And yes, this person is well-connected within the party, especially amongst Dems With Cash. As in LOTS of cash.

This person told me that a lot of friends, who have given the party and candidates scads of dough are now calling them up and saying "Not One More Dime!", after last Thursday's debacle in Congress.

So no, we are not the only ones who are so pissed-off that we are crosseyed.

It's gonna be a tough summer, back in their districts, for an awful lot of Senators and Congresscritters. I suggest they invest heavily in Nomex. They are gonna be confronting shear rage, nothing less.

This person also told me that an awful lot of The Dems With Cash are holding their breath for Al Gore. He's their man. No one else is even close. They also want campaign finance reform with teeth. Like yesterday.

FWIW.

Because that's what the "librul media" is saying. :sarcasm:

Not at all. Not in the least.

This person and friends are hardly net junkies like us. Anything but.

3. Do you really use the term "got off the blower" in real life?
Granted this war stuff is making me feel like we're in a bad film noir, but this flashback is too much! :D

No more money for enablers. PEROID.

Edited to add: I remember the term "blower" being used for the telephone from the Star Trek ep, "A Piece of the Action". I know a lot of that dialog by heart!

34. I call it that from time to time, myself.
My great-grandmother always called it that - namely because when she was growing up that's what they had. LOL!

My husband thinks it's funny when I say that and my kid thinks I'm nuts. :)

And I agree....enablers can continue collecting their corporate money because they are not going to see a dime for me. Like many DUers, I'm a donor (albeit a teeny one). No more.

Show me a candidate, and I will show you a donation. Show me a triangulator and I will show you the door.

4. I do hope that Democrats who voted the right way are not going to be punished
HIllary, Obama and Dodd voted the right way, as did a majority of House Democrats. They should not be punished.

18. For the Senate, I have names
I have been researching which Senators protect the People's interests and which do not. I don;t think you'll find the rsults surprising, though. Strangely enough, the Iraq war never figured into my calculations because a clear vote never came up between 2004 and 2006.

But it is the usual suspects.

Nearly 50% of the Senate is DLC.....50%!!! And most DLCers and Southern Democrats vote with the Republicans on big issues MOST of the time. Not a little bit, but MOST of the time. It is sickening that we tolerate these idiots who by their very nature make the Democratic party weak and prevent any real change from happening from the left.

Sorry, I really am too mad this week to post much.

19. "because a clear vote never came up"
i would only extend what you said to note that leadership can be demonstrated in more ways than just voting. and, even on voting, did we not see annual "supplementals" to continue the madness in Iraq?

think about that. can anyone really justify spending money for even a single day in Iraq? was it ever legitimate to believe progress either was, or would be, made? not by any measure I could apply.

too mad to post, eh? heh, i find it helps me keep my sanity when i get really mad. of course, some on DU have questioned that ...

22. Well, up until this point I was sane
so I think I'm losing something by losing my cool.

And no....I stopped scoring votes at the beginning of this Congress. Too hard to establish trends on one quarter so I was waiting for two to pass first. But last Congress, there was no clear vote on the Iraq war.

This time, I have one vote to put on there, and it will be as Sirota defined it as well as the "official version". Both votes are telling, imho.

24. no clear vote?
am i missing something on the point you're making about no clear vote on Iraq in the last Congress?

i thought all Iraq funding since the IWR was funded via a "supplemental" funding bill. i assume those occurred every single year since the invasion of Iraq. that, if true, would have included votes on Iraq in the last Congress.

is that not correct? wasn't each supplemental good only for one year's budget or even less?

26. no you're right, welshterrier, there were two I believe
Edited on Tue May-29-07 07:52 PM by Zodiak Ironfist
However, as a scientist, it does me no good to distinguish two groups (for the People vs. against the People as I interpret it) when the entire Senate votes "aye" for a particular bill, so for the sake of parsimony, I left those two supplementals out. Remember, I am scoring the Senate, not the House (which is too much of a task for me), and no Senator was willing to stick their necks out against this war and vote against funding it.

Everyone voted that way because no one was even thinking of taking a stand at the time. Just like the general budget, they were considered "must pass" bills. Shitty, but there you have it.

Now that the Democrats are in control, they are expected to take a stand. What went on was bullshit political theatre with a predetermined outcome.

8. I find it odd
that these big donors were unsophisticated enough to think the funding was going to be pulled last week.

I never for a moment expected it would. I did a poll on it here, and the vast majority of DUers had no such expectation. Yet the big-money insiders thought it would? Odd.

23. My answering machine stays pretty busy with political calls
asking for money. I'm not giving one damn dime to anyone til I see what they stand for. For the last election I gave a shitload (for me) of money to Kerry only to see him fold like a bad tent and run one of the worst campaigns ever. Not this time. Because of our spineless Dems in Wash, I am giving more to people who really NEED money like Katrina victims, tornedo victims, and especially animals that have also been touched by these things. You know what? I fell a whole lot better giving money to them than I have ever felt about giving it to a Goddamn RICH politician. Fuck em - none of them do anything for the people.

Edited on Tue May-29-07 10:24 PM by hatrack
And this just went out today . . .

Excuse me for asking, but W. T. F.?!?!?!

Why is Gonzalez still A.G.? Why hasn't Rove been subpoenaed? Why, with Bush's approval rating south of 30%, are CHICKENSHIT Dems in Congress caving in again and again on Iraq? Why haven't impeachment proceedings begun, in light of massive, systematic violations which have continued for YEARS??

When Democrats in Congress start to fight back, then I will consider writing checks. However, until this happens, the checkbook is CLOSED. For a more succinct take on the current situation, please see the enclosed pledge slip. (Ed. - said pledge slip said "Fuck Off!" in two-inch capitals.)

Oh, and tell your bosses there are a shitload of us out here who worked, donated and voted to make 2006 possible, and we are SICK of this spineless BULLSHIT.

and she said I'm crazy. The rank & file are terrifically discouraged, and I'm not surprised the high rollers are too.

Shit. All we had to do was flip OH, which would have been easy since the votes will all be counted next year. They pissed away an opportunity of a lifetime.
