Anti-American Americans
Both conservatives and liberals, Democrats and Republicans (and indeed many others) are seen accusing those they disagree with as being 'Anti-American Americans.' Many people agree that it is reasonable and healthy for citizens within a democratic society to disagree.

At what point do you think someone else's beliefs move beyond reasonable disagreement and become anti-American.

1. When they subvert the Constitution & harm the national security of the United States.
"Anti-American Americans" = anyone who supports the Bush Regime.

2. I've yet to see an actual definition of "Anti-American Americans"
Edited on Wed May-23-07 01:18 PM by JeffR
It's a flimsy, illogical accusation no matter who levels it. It's a dishonest way to confront dissenting opinions.

One edit: not accusing you personally; your point about the frequency of this rhetorical trope is absolutely correct.

3. Is this question meant for the House Un-American Activities Committee?
Jumping into the flamebait pool and turning the tables:

1. Un-American is to want more Americans to die in Iraq by voting to fund the war.

2. Un-American is to put Israel's interests above American interests by saying that "all options are on the table" on Iran.

4. When They Actually Are Contrary To The Constitution Of the Country, Doctor
The chief example currently would be the doctrine of 'unitary executive', which is essentially a claim of dictatorship based on military power that would have Caesar himself doffing his Triumphal laurels in honor of its audacity. Those who hew to this doctrine are the most profoundly un-American actors to have ever appeared in our national life.
