It's time for some of US to run.
It has become painfully clear in the last few months and particularly the last few days that the established politicians couldn't care less what the populace thinks. They've got their orders from their corporate masters and we are expected to shut up and vote just because someone has a specific letter next to their names. I say no more.

Remember, the original concept for our Democratic Republic was that ORDINARY PEOPLE were supposed to hold office because ordinary people can best represent ordinary people. I want to see a homemaker as my congressperson, or a barber, or a truck driver or a farmer or something other than rich (mostly) white male lawyers ENTRENCHED in their position.

We have DUers all over this country. Why can't we start a movement, here and now, to recruit DUers to run for Congress? Those who don't run can help run the campaigns.

Think about it. Most DUers have an in-depth understanding of the issues, probably more than the our current congressional members. We already have a base to launch many campaigns. Many of us are seasoned veterans of past campaigns and can bring that experience with us.

Would anyone be interested in at least exploring the idea?

4. OH, good goddess, not me.
I'm not fit for polite society. But I'll be more than happy to work my ass off for a DU candidate.

3. uhh -- and how will it be FINANCED?
Once you start running grassroots campaigns you always run into that black hole of a hurdle. I think your idea is great -- but it would be a huge undertaking, if you wanted to steer clear of corporate money.

5. I think you counter
big dollars by big activism and big visibility. By listening to constituents. By ensuring your constituents get time with the candidate. You go door-to-door. You hold frequent neighborhood meetings. You sponsor neighborhood picnics and invite the neighbors. Remember, it takes an enormous amount of time to raise large sums. Why not take a good portion of the time normally used for fund raising to go face-to-face with the people to raise awareness.

7. yes, that is a good counter
However, it does take time and money.

I'd love to see a groundswell towards this. But it is going to have to start from the ground, and it's not necessarily going to happen before '08. Is there anyone out there who would be willing and able to be the figurehead to lead this?
