Curious...How many here have landlines and can be polled?
I am not able to post a poll but was just curious as to how many at DU have landlines and can take part in these polls. I am completely wireless and therefore can not be contacted for any of these polls that are being posted. Just wondering how many like me are out there. If there is anyone who can post a poll maybe someone would be willing to do that?

1. VOIP
Not exactly a land line and I think it is probably in the cell phone category when it comes to the pollsters and junk calls

2. lost the land line 18 mos ago--cell only
I have to talk all day at work... I really DON'T want to do so at home except on the weekends. Losing the land line helps--even with the "no-call" lists in place, I was getting hounded.

3. I have a landline, but I'm on a no-call list, and when
they get through, I simply hang up. Once, however, some guy called selling something and (taking a line from Seinfeld) I said, "Give me your home phone number, and I'll call you back." "You want my home phone number?" he asked, clearly surprised. "Well, you have mine, don't you?"

4. I do and I don't
when I'm at school, I don't (not by choice, really, but beacuse I live on campus and the phone system is weird.) At home (my parents' place) we have a landline. I think they were polled during the '06 election cycle, but it's a rare event.

6. I have a land line and DSL
Oddly, it's the Repukes who poll me, not the Dems. I think it's because they were from old lists. My Dad voted for Nixon but he passed away in 1995. So I usually give them the opposite information from what they are push-polling for.

I actually had one policemen's benevelent type organization try to get me to donate. She sounding like she was from the Dakotas or Minnesota. Anyway, so they could lobby for more prisons being built. I said

Well, if they'd legalize drugs we wouldn't have a prison problem.

.... Silence....

Well, you're certainly allowed to think that way.

The country will eventually catch on, because you won't be able to solict enough money like this honey. And you won't be able to build enough prisons. It's a mental health issue, not a criminal one.

8. I keep a landline for power outages... I haven't been polled... except
once. It was an anti-choice push poll and the girl asking the questions had clearly been hired to do the polling and had NO IDEA what she was doing, vis a vis asking leading questions....

It was funny. I took a couple of minutes to show her how the questions were slanted and she was surprised as she hadn't given it a moment's thought. I told her to have a nice day and we both hung up.

9. Been polled twice (in '04)...lied my ass off both times.
I can only imagine the poor pollsters trying to make sense of one contradictory answer after the other.

have been polled
have intentionally given misleading responses
have, therefore, no faith in alleged poll results

13. Have been polled.
I usually give answers that are close enough to make my responses useful for their stats.

Most recently I was polled for my radio-listening habits, esp. wrt youth-oriented hip-hop stations. I told the nice girl that I'm an aging white guy who likes classical guitar music and violin concerti/sonatas, and she insisted on filling in the various questions until her computer said 'reject'. Gee, fancy that.

I can imagine the techno-elite choking on their ceviche and risotto when they see how this thread is going! I'm waiting for one of them to recover enough to give us one of their "I can't believe anyone still has a landline anymore! De blah, de blah ... talk to my friends in Bali and business associates in Tokyo over the internet ... about to get an Iphone surgically implanted in my ear, etc. etc."

15. Have landline....been polled.....and...
had many interesting conversations with the people taking the polls...most of the time, I had to tell the one pollster that none of the choices of answers he gave me applied...and then went on to explain why...I had a very interesting conversation with that one..others insisted I use one of their choices, eos...polls ARE slanted and polls ARE manipulated to give desired results...imo...

16. I maintain a land line for dial up access
Im out of dsl range and absolutely will not do business with Charter Cable.
While I never get polled, I do get a lot of calls.
The folks that used to live here apparently owe money to everyone in the world except me.
I keep the telephone bells off, the answering machine sound down, and I flush the garbage once a day.
