Congressional Republicans told President Bush that the Iraq War is harming those who must never be harmed: Congressional Republicans.
Note how proud Tom Davis (R-Too Fucking Late) is about shocking and awing Bush with a bold and timely assessment — the war isn't going real well:
"It was a very remarkable, candid conversation," Davis said. "People are always saying President Bush is in a bubble. Well, this was our chance, and we took it."
I guess four years and hundreds of thousands of deaths is the Republican equivalent of the
five-second rule.
When it comes to telling the truth and providing oversight that would have saved lives, trillions of dollars, our good name, and any hope of peace in the Middle East, it's just common sense to keep your powder dry as long as you can.
Tim Russert seems to agree, as he was dazzled by the boldness of this surge of clear-thinking and candor. In response, Correntewire's Lambert gives us a snarky
conundrum for the ages: "How could a journalist of Russert's integrity fall for it?"
