Power Attorney Denny Crane blames Gitmo on Hillary Clinton
Edited on Thu May-10-07 06:07 AM by wyldwolf
Famed attorney Dennis Crane, of Crane, Poole & Schmidt, has recently built a case against Hillary Clinton for her role in creating a terrorist detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The Associated Press has learned that, during a private conversation with another attorney at the firm, Mr. Crane said that if it were not for the fear of former First Lady Senator Clinton, President Clinton would have had no reason to mislead the courts on his sexual dalliance because the American people would have forgiven him. Crane further asserted that had the President been more truthful, Vice President Al Gore would have been elected President in 2000 and such a liberal would have never established the facility at "Gitmo."

"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned..." Remarked Crane.

When asked if he approves of the activities at the center in Guantanamo Bay, Crane, Republican, responded, "Of course, we're Americans!"

2. Please tell me what the "cigar" conversation
Edited on Thu May-10-07 06:35 AM by Tellurian
was about at the end of the day on "their" balcony?

Where Denny always rationalizes his bizarre thoughts...on the balcony and Mr. Shore always reconciles them.

I missed it last night...:(

"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned..." Remarked Crane.

and didn't one of them try to shoot him in an episode? <hilarious>

***now watch..some glue sniffing idiot is bound to show up...and it's all Hillary's fault, said, Crane~

4. This is flame bait and unwarranted
In the first place, a person is responsible for his own lying and his own actions. Second, all the things Bush did - for which he is responsible - were not predicable consequences of Bill lying. Second of all, it was BILL'S guess of Hillary's reaction, which was clearly wrong because though very hurt after repeating his lies (because he lied to her) for 6 months, she learned the truth.

In fact, consider the alternative - that he had told the truth. The worst that would have happened is that Hillary would have divorced him after his term was over. There would still have been some disgust that he had sex with a young intern in the White House. There would have been no impeachment. No Republican over reaching and the same desire to want "honor and dignity in the White House" leading to Bush.

10. You didn't link to the AP story - was this how they positioned it
If so, that is one of the dumbest articles I ever saw. Think of how every child could use it - I lied because my parents would get mad and it would be bad. I lied because the teacher, my best friend, the police .... etc.

Telling the truth is a good thing and should be done more often.

14. The underlying point he was making was that....................
If Bill hadn't lied because He was afraid of Hillary then Al Gore would be president and Gitmo wouldn't exist and we wouldn't be in this mess.
That's what I got out of it.

16. karynnj?
:eyes: Surely you didn't take this spoof seriously? Crane is a foil for David E. Kelly to ridicule rethug/neanderthal attitudes and beliefs. I think Shattner is terrific in his role; Spader, 'tho mannered, does get to deliver a lot of zingers re: the courtroom dialogue in this episode about Gitmo, human rights, etc. Go Kelly! And a big hello to your lovely wife Michelle...

33. He does an almost camp send-up of the character he plays..
such as rushing into court wearing the army of the Colonials during the war for independence to defend the 2nd amendment. It's hilarious. Shatner clearly has no trouble in a role making fun of him; once in a blue moon they even throw in a Star Trek reference.

They also originally portrayed him as having mad cow disease but that was mis-diagnosed. So now he just goes explicably off from time to time. And he is Alan Schorr's best friend, despite their political differences.

21. Just so everyone knows, another attorney at the firm detests Bush...
Alan Shore... this was one his closing arguments in a recent case:

“When the weapons of mass destruction thing turned out to be not true, I expected the American people to rise up. Ha! They didn’t.”

“Then, when the Abu Ghraib torture thing surfaced and it was revealed that our government participated in rendition, a practice where we kidnap people and turn them over to regimes who specialize in torture, I was sure then the American people would be heard from. We stood mute.”

“Then came the news that we jailed thousands of so-called terrorists suspects, locked them up without the right to a trial or even the right to confront their accusers. Certainly, we would never stand for that. We did.”

“And now, it’s been discovered the executive branch has been conducting massive, illegal, domestic surveillance on its own citizens. You and me. And I at least consoled myself that finally, finally the American people will have had enough. Evidentially, we haven’t.”

“In fact, if the people of this country have spoken, the message is we’re okay with it all. Torture, warrantless search and seizure, illegal wiretappings, prison without a fair trial - or any trial, war on false pretenses. We, as a citizenry, are apparently not offended.”

“There are no demonstrations on college campuses. In fact, there’s no clear indication that young people seem to notice.”

“Well, Melissa Hughes noticed. Now, you might think, instead of withholding her taxes, she could have protested the old fashioned way. Made a placard and demonstrated at a Presidential or Vice-Presidential appearance, but we’ve lost the right to that as well. The Secret Service can now declare free speech zones to contain, control and, in effect, criminalize protest.”

“Stop for a second and try to fathom that.”

“At a presidential rally, parade or appearance, if you have on a supportive t-shirt, you can be there. If you are wearing or carrying something in protest, you can be removed. This, in the United States of America. This in the United States of America. Is Melissa Hughes the only one embarrassed?”

“Last night, I went to bed with a book. Not as much fun as a 29 year old, but the book contained a speech by Adlai Stevenson. The year was 1952. He said, The tragedy of our day is the climate of fear in which we live and fear breeds repression. Too often, sinister threats to the Bill of Rights, to freedom of the mind are concealed under the patriotic cloak of anti-Communism”.

“Today, it’s the cloak of anti-terrorism. Stevenson also remarked, It’s far easier to fight for principles than to live up to them“.

22. The dialog is superb..
wasn't Dede Myers a consultant to the show's legal accuracy at one time? Or maybe I'm thinking of the West Wing..

At the end of each episode, the credits seem to roll too fast. Does D. Kelly write the dialog or does he have legal writers for that?

If televangelists, rappers, or tv hosts got on this issue then we'd have something going on with the imprisonment part of the issue. I guess. Same with Darfur. Dependendent on the amount of effort they would say needs to be put toward it.

Does America care about foreigners, and are American's racist.

The Crane character is a setup to play against Alan Shore and that is why he is portrayed as, in a sense, a crazed freeper who uses convoluted logic in order to make his case.
Crane is there to portray all that is wrong in this nation.
This is not a case of the writers trying to be "Fair and Balanced"

From people who really need to watch the show sometime.

This is one of Shatner's best roles ever and he brings the "worst-of" rightwinger traits and talking points up front so Spader's character can slam home the rediculousness of it all.
