Laura Bush: The Suffering Continues
I will tolerate no more criticism of the courage and sacrifice shown by Dear Leader and Mrs. Dear Leader while guiding our troops in battle. Truly no one suffers more than they. I offer this as evidence.

Day for a Queen

The Reliable Source

By Amy Argetsinger and Roxanne Roberts

Day for a Queen

....
Laura Bush decided that the dinner for 134 guests will be white tie, a first for the Bushes. That means another layer of formality -- tiaras, medals, stuff like that. Most female guests, and the first lady, have purchased new gowns for the occasion. Oh, and first daughter Barbara Bush is bringing a mystery date.

... What could go wrong? ... Last December, three women showed up at a reception for Kennedy Center Honors recipients wearing the very same red Oscar de la Renta gown as the first lady, and Mrs. Bush had to duck out and change clothes.

... Laura Bush has asked de la Renta (obviously no hard feelings) to create a one-of-a-kind gown -- embroidered turquoise silk faille with a matching embroidered bolero.

De la Renta also designed her suit for the arrival ceremony at the White House earlier in the day tomorrow and a short cocktail dress for Tuesday's black-tie dinner at the British Embassy. The queen's dresser coordinated with the designer and the first lady's staff to make sure the two women wear complementary colors.
....

Tomorrow morning, the president and more than 7,000 guests will greet the queen with a 21-gun salute on the South Lawn. That's followed by a private lunch for 12 in the Bush family quarters while the chefs and florists put the finishing touches on the main event.
....

This is exactly the sort of information that should be rushed to our troops fighting in the Global War on Terror®. Imagine how it will lift their sprits.

Truly, I am inspired. Excuse me while I cry.

3. this is so reassuring....
I've been worried sick about how Laura was coping with the pressures of the queen's visit. It seems that she has everything under control and I need not have worried. Whew!

7. And how much will she have paid for her hair to be coiffed,
her makeup perfect (botox?) and her gown to be "one of a kind" and who foots that bill? Not to mention the cost of the dinner and the added security.

95% of a town is destroyed and 9 folks killed, other towns suffering devastation because of the storms and folks still living in fema trailers and entire neighborhoods still in ruin 2 years later.

Soldiers fighting and dying, soldiers and vets receiving inadequate medical care at home, families of soldiers and vets struggling to make ends meet.

The next time you receive an email from the right depicting the conditions our soldiers are enduring over there, to keep them from fighting us here, be sure to send the images of the glorious white tie and tiara affair.

:grr:

13. But who's coaching W on how to tug at his forelock, like the peasant he is.
And will young Barbara curtsey to the Queen? Interesting Barbara is coming, but not Jenna. A different wine with every course, and Jenna would be in some guest's lap, or under the table.

20. Arghhh! The pain. The agony. The torment. The anguish. This poor, poor
drug-addled, long-suffering woman.

I just read a post here about how the World Bank is making the purchase of water impossible for many people in the world. They go thirsty and don't clean themselves properly. And then I read this. Laura Bush worries about wearing the same dress as someone else.

I'm crying so much now that I'm hyper-ventilating. That poor, poor First Cow.

My mind conjures up wonderful possibilities...

Sean Penn?

Alex Baldwin?

Ellen DeGeneres?

Bill Maher?

Best of all: Borat!

Nah. She'll probably bring some boring young Repuke, but a girl can dream, can't she?

23. The last time I heard a 21-gun salute...
...was at the funeral of my 19-year-old Marine friend, who died in Bush's Iraq war. I think that says all that needs to be said about the Bushes' "suffering" versus the real suffering of our troops and their families.

24. 19-year-old Marines do not get 21-gun salutes
They get a 3-gun salute. Then it's on to the next funeral. And the next funeral. And the next....

29. My apologies; you are correct.
For some reason I had always thought that the seven guns firing three times = 21-gun salute, but I just looked it up and now I feel like an idiot. Thanks for the correction.

I hadn't known it was seven rifles. I've been to a few funerals at Arlington. The last was next to the Pentagon. A few months later, pictures of that side of the Pentagon would be in the news.

27. Oh, the humanity.
Middle-class people can't afford to buy homes within easy driving distance of the White House, I see people sleeping on grates, we've had two historic landmarks in DC burn recently, and the biggest concern is formal attire. :eyes: Oy.
