reconstruction:
1. either fixing the levees or redoing the coastline in a more natural way 2. fixing the water supply issues - some towns still don't have potable water 3. issuing the FEMA checks and trailers - when I was there a couple weeks ago, some people were still waiting on those.
gentrification/exterminism:
1. tossing out policies like foreclosing on property if the lawn isn't mowed, when they know the reason is because the homeowners were evacuated by the government to Texas. 2. overturning landlord decisions to evict renters who evacuated under mandatory orders, when the buildings weren't even damaged in the storm. 3. creation of policies to allow looting of food and water during a natural disaster, instead of turning away aid and then arresting those who tried to get the only food/water in the city. I have no clue why taking possession of drinking water when the only other option is dying of thirst is a criminal offense, but taking possession of someone's home because the grass is too tall is government policy.
corporate/government corruption and fraud:
1. by insurance companies 2. by halliburton-type companies who were financially raping the country, then letting subcontracts for the actual work at a tiny fraction of the cost 3. by FEMA who let crates of private donations spoil rather than allow them to be distributed in certain minority neighborhoods
prevention:
1. global warming issues
I probably forgot some.
