Murtha Spokesman: He "Doesn't Believe Impeachment Is Appropriate"
By Greg Sargent | bio

Because of some highly inconclusive comments that Jack Murtha made yesterday on CBS, lot of people today are following The Politico's lead and claiming that Murtha said that the Dems "could" impeach Bush. It's all over CNN and MSNBC right now.

In our view, Murtha simply didn't say that Dems were considering impeachment. But the remarks were unclear. So we went ahead and, you know, sought some clarification from Murtha spokesman Matt Mazonkey. He told us the following:

"The Congressman was asked about the ways to influence a President. He did list impeachment as one of four ways. He listed public opinion, the election, impeachment, and the power of the purpose. But he doesn't believe that impeachment is appropriate at this time."

No impeachment. "At this time."

1. Don't get pissed. He said "at this time".
That's not anywhere near as definite as "off the table".

I think we are inching ever closer.

4. That's the answer I get from my Congressman (a Democrat)
. . . and I don't live in Pennsylvania.

2. The power of the purpose?
How about the power of the porpoise?

Or maybe a little closer to what you mean is the power of the Porche?

5. Is it a blowjob yet?
Would that be an appropriate time to impeach?

I respect Congressman Murtha, this is no attack. I just disagree and there's plenty of evidence that the bush cabal has committed impeachable offenses... starting with attacking Iraq.

So - when is it appropraite, Congressman? When they steal the next election? Bomb Iran? Let the next U.S. city drown in a hurricaine? WHEN?

6. I do not understand our fearless leaders.
King George has done more to merit impeachment than anyone to ever hold the office. I don't get it.

9. When politicians use the "I" word, they know exactly what they are
doing, even if they couch it as a mere possibility--the word itself attracts attention, and when a respected pol says it, you have to wonder what's really going on. I take it as a hopeful sign.

10. Bush will NEVER be impeached. Why is that so hard to understand?
He will finish his term and be remembered as the failure he was.

11. Never say never; he deserves to be, and think of the immeasurable
damage he's done and is still able to do. I remain hopeful.
