No, that's not the tag-line for a right-wing website denouncing gay rights, abortion and working women. It is the tag-line for a left-wing website denouncing the right-wing Talibangelicals who promote "Christian Nationalism" and theocracy against the Constitution, i.e. people who are using religion to destroy the United States.
Right now it is just a thought experiment, but reading "Kingdom Coming: The Rise of Christian Nationalism" by Michelle Goldberg has gotten me stirred. The idea is to create a single website that refutes, point by point, the claims made by proponents of Christian Nationalism: the doctrine that the United States was founded as a Christian theocracy and that no law, not even the Constitution, should in any way stand against a very conservative, literalist interpretation of Christian dogma. In large part, it would be an encyclopedia of dogmas, beliefs and leaders of Christian Nationalism and how they operate (think "Jesus Camp" as a wiki) along with a feed of current news and a central archive of the stupid, ignorant and even treasonous comments made by the wanna-be theocrats. This would help publicize the threat these people pose to the secular country created by Franklin, Jefferson, Madison and the other Founders, and (I hope) provide strategies on how to counter their revisionism and outright lies for the 2008 election and beyond.
Thoughts?
Also, I'm trying to find a good name for the group. It should be a turn-around-back-stab using the rhetoric and language of the religious right-wing, much as the Washington Defense of Marriage Alliance (see link below.) The ideal name should make unsuspecting sheeple stop by to find new ways of lynching abortion doctors in the name of the Holy Motherland. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to post or PM.
Added Since sig lines are turned off, here is the link mentioned above:
Washington Defense of Marriage Alliance.
