Rassmussen polls: Obama overtakes Clinton in national polling.
As an Obama supporter I am happy but, I am also shocked. I thought he might do this in the summer but, so soon is shocking.

Obama Leads Clinton Nationally for the First Time

"For the first time in the Election 2008 season, somebody other than New York Senator Hillary Clinton is on top in the race for the Democratic Presidential nomination," according to the latest Rasmussen poll.

Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) leads with 32%, followed by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) with 30% and former Sen. John Edwards (D-NC) with 17%. "No other candidate tops 3%."

1. Interesting but polling predates Hillary's strong SC debate performance

2. It;s just one poll but, it was fun. I've no doubt that Clinton is very strong.
I guess that is why I was surprised. But, most polls will still have her in the lead. But, not because I'm an Obama supporter so much as it is fun to see something different. shows some movement and people thinking.

4. Rasmussen admits that the difference is statistically insignificant
In the second paragraph, Rasmussen admits that the difference is statistically insignificant. It would be more accurate to say that Obama and Clinton are running neck and neck.

6. Let them run neck and neck
I say let them run neck and neck for awhile. Then the conservatives won't know who to make up the lies about for the after the conventions.

5. Obama running neck and neck this early isn't surprising after his fundraising coup
Ever since then the media focus has been on his momentum. It kind of a self fulfilling prophecy that political strategists dream of.

The downside is if Clinton beats Obama in the 2nd Q fundraising or if based on the debate she nudges ahead of Obama again in the polls.

Then the stories become the reverse with Clinton having the momentum.

Its going to be a long campaign season.

8. I don't think those numbers are current
The secondary candidate numbers have been the same for weeks as the focus has been on Rudy and McCain in head to head matchups with the big 3.
