I honestly think that all of our candidates did pretty darned well. I sure wish that General Clark had been there and he missed his moment in time. That said, any of the folks in the debate would immediately take the nation to a far better place than we are now. That's the truth.
Still---
Dennis' passion while holding the copy of the constitution was powerful and, yet not overwrought. He clearly made his point about being correct about the war without being a bore about it. Dennis will see his poll numbers increase after tonight.
Hillary truly held her ground, did not make any mistakes which is critical to a front-runner and "looked" presidential. My 89 year old mom called and said that "Hillary did as good as any of all those men did!" I have to agree.
Obama also impressed me. He answered the questions and seemed to know he was speaking to all Americans and beyond the immediate debate forum. I liked that. I think he, like Hillary, will stay in the top tier comfortably now.
Governor Bill certainly raised his credibility and favorability with anyone watching the debate. It's understandable why he is such a popular Governor. He may benefit the most from the debate. He may surprise a lot of us.
John never forgets to speak to those Americans who are least fortunate. He probably is the most likable of all the candidate. He also didn't make, in my opinion, in real mistakes.
Chris is such a dark horse that he gains just by showing up at all. I think he was articulate, but probably didn't separate himself out from the pack as he needed to at this point.
Joe did well at the debate, but I just don't see him getting any real purchase with primary voters. Like Dodd, he needed to distinguish himself from the pack and I don't think he did it. No mistakes, but no leverage against the top three of Hillary, Obama and John.
Mike: What a breath of fresh air he brings to the debate. And that's needed. It's what Al Sharpton brought to the debates in 2004. I hope he stays with it and keeps up his candor.
So, if I had to choose not a favorite, but the winner...it would have to be Hillary because she is the front runner, she held her own, didn't make mistakes and when you are in first place, that's more than enough to continue to stay in the lead.
