7. His penalty will be to be remembered as one of the worse presidents ever
Edited on Sun Apr-22-07 01:17 PM by Katzenkavalier
You guys need to keep in mind we have had plenty of evil presidents that caused plenty of suffering to thousands in other parts of the world (Latin America knows way too much about that) and none of them were judged or imprisoned. Some of them are considered great presidents, like Teddy Roosevelt, and I don't see the outrage over here or anywhere.

What the US did to Latin America throughout the 20th century was pure evil and nobody gives a damn.

15. Well, the Middle East is none too thrilled with our frigging meddling either.
We did a bang up job at that end of the world, too, regrettably.

We can't unring these bells, we just have to put people in office who don't have their heads up their asses so we prevent repeat performances....

9. They Should Re-Open Alcatraz For the Bush** Gang
Bush** could have Al Capone's old cell. Or maybe Cheney should get that one, since he's the real don.

Don't stop running the tours though. We all want Bush** and Cheney where we can see them.

Really though, we should defer to the rest of the world and send him to the Hague.

11. History will punish his name and his family for many generations
No greater punishment can there be than to have one's name and legacy be seen as that of a fool historically. The Bush Crime Family will go down as one of the worst political dynasties in American history.

13. Turned over to the Hague for trial as a war criminal. The real question is...
...what atonement should the people of America make for allowing a cabal of criminals to do so much damage to the world?

Please, don't anyone say "It wasn't US, WE didn't want him..."

There were plenty of Germans in the 1930s who "didn't want" Hitler & Co. There are always plenty of comfortable, well-intentioned citizens of nations where evil works its way into power, who "don't want" that evil and "don't want" it to do any harm to others, but whose efforts to stop it are limited to "Well I voted against it" or even "I wrote a few letters to X...."

Until we who "don't want" make enough noise, enough clamor, with enough passion to convince the spineless, sniveling, go-along-to-get-along weasel element of our government that THIS MUST STOP, NOW, we are culpable.

There is little, realistically, we can expect to be able to do to make restitution for the lives lost and the hope destroyed by our nation's blind pursuit of power, comfort, and oblivious self-aggrandizement. We live in a diverse nation full of people of diverse views, many of whom will not share the urgency and sorrow that we share in this respect. And to attempt to force our views on others or to twist the government to reflect our views and only our views would be to make us one with those who believe the ends justify the means.

But there are things we CAN do. We can change how our own future generations perceive what they are entitled to, and what responsibilities they bear to those with whom we share this planet. And we can do that by consciously fostering new cultural paradigms that see evil for what it is, rather than look away. By emphasizing the values that put what is right before what is easy and comfortable. By changing our education systems to promote cooperation and critical thinking, rather than competition and conformity. By steering our economy towards rewards for those who do the hardest and most important work, rather than those who can best further enrich the powerful.

If we can do those things with what remains of our own lifetimes, then in future generations our children and grandchildren can perhaps again make our nation a force for inspiration, hope, and justice in the world, and atone for the evil in which we have made ourselves complicit.

somberly,
Bright

20. I have a novel idea
Go to the end of the novel Frankstein by Mary Godwin Shelley. In light of Mr. Bush's role in delaying any significant action on global warming until his successor takes office, I would find it appropriate.

21. Seizure of all personal assets and life imprisonment in a Texas maximum security prison,
without the possibility of parole.

Which raises another question, if a former President goes to jail, does the SS go with him?
