For DU historians: 1976 last time nominee wasn't in lead at this point.
This is from a newspaper article, and it doesn't give all the details, but it's better than nothing (and it was easy enough to cut and paste):

Presidential historians had to reach to 1976, when former California Gov. Ronald Reagan beat President Ford in North Carolina's Republican primary to find a primary upset so late in the process. Ford, who had won five primaries before North Carolina, went on to win the nomination.

1. Maybe Kerry won't win because it is 1976 all of the sudden?

2. From same article: Clinton quote
Former President Clinton said in an interview with USA Today that there were reasons for Edwards to stay in. "A lot of times things happen late in the race," he said.

3. Bill Clintons Comment
Former President Clinton said in an interview with USA Today that there were reasons for Edwards to stay in. "A lot of times things happen late in the race," he said

Was this just an off the cuff statement? Or did it mean something?

7. Reflecting or hoping?
As Clinton says, anything can happen, even now, and there's a lull before March 2.

6. It isn't so old that it couldn't happen again
Anything could happen, but I tend to think that elections are not transferable entities, nor are past candidate campaigns or administrations...

8. On what do you base your logic for supporting your candidate?
I presume at least part of your logic for supporting your candidatae is based on history.
