Iraq Ministers Quit; Demand Timeline for Withdrawal
Posted by Trish | Apr. 16, 2007, 1:05 pm

Iraqis want U.S. troops to come home too. Shi’ite ministers quit the al-Maliki government in protest over the lack of a timeline for American withdrawal.

The Sadrists accused Maliki of “ignoring the will of the people” over the timetable issue and also of failing to improve basic services and security.

The Shi-ites say al-Maliki is ignoring the will of the people. Hmmm, why does that ring a bell?

Tens of thousands of Iraqis answered a call by Sadr to rally in the holy Shi’ite city of Najaf last week to protest against the presence of more than 140,000 U.S.-led forces in Iraq…

“The prime minister has to express the will of the Iraqi people. They went out in a demonstration in their millions asking for a timetable for withdrawal,” the head of the Sadrist bloc in parliament, Nassar al-Rubaie, told a news conference.

1. Now didn't Bush say we went over there to help the Iraqi people?
Wouldn't it be bad manners to not abide by the wishes of the Iraqi people? Just askin'.

4. Maliki wants a timeline for withdrawal, too, but Bush won't let him talk about it.

2. Maliki and Bush have a lot in common
Neither is popular, both ignore the will of the people and neither really owe their power to the will of the people.

And neither is too enthusiastic about a timetable for US withdrawal.

3. How dare Sadr try to represent the will of the people, he's supposed to represent
foreign multinational corporations who want to use the U.S. to control his country's oil wealth.

Rape of Iraq's oil fields by Bush's corporate supporters is inevitable so Iraq should lay back and enjoy it.

:sarcasm:
