Retrieving Rove emails
Like Leahy says...I don't think they could have been erased since they are most likely stored on multiple servers. They would have to run some deliberate security software to get rid of them I do believe. Seems to me that selective deletion, by a software, could be proof of "covering your tracks".

If they didn't spend the time needed to delete from the multiple servers then it is my understanding that they are still retrievable?

1. Yes they are -
I don't believe Leahy would make that comment if he was not absolutely certain that they could be retrieved. He is sure to have an IT person's knowledge to support his statements

3. I guess I'm a little slow on this subject
but if I send an email to my mother in law in Kansas or my old Navy Buddy in Alabama and I delete the email I sent them on my computer but they don't delete the one they have, the emails still exist right?

4. Yes..and that's just on the PC.
The email PROBABLY also exists on the email server...the computers who's jobs it is to actually route the emails between the sender and the receiver.

If the actual email does not still exist on the server, then there is still probably a log of that transaction on the server. The log would show receiving an email from X and forwarding that email on to Y.

Right. Also, (and I do not pretend to understand this stuff) a friend
of mine said that in communications servers, the emails are stored on the servers when you send them. They are then stored on the server that receives them. So, you have a copy, the server that handles you communications has a copy, your friend has a copy and your friends' communications server has a copy. I think that this is what my much more savvy friend tried to make me understand last night. But again, I have slept since then...

6. Right but they also still exist on your computer.
It takes an expert to retrieve your E-mails but it can be done as long as the hard drive is not destroyed.

5. If Homeland Security wanted your emails...
Do you think they'd be satisfied if you simply said "They were deleted," or would they look a little further?

I'm inclined to think the latter, and the same scrutiny should be applied to the RNC servers.

7. How quickly will the Congress have to act on this? Is every minute that passes
giving the criminals an opportunity to destroy evidence? Or can the thugs not get to these emails? I guess I want Congress to order the servers and all the PCs involved to be impounded immediately and taken into custody. Or am I thinking in an out-dated way (analog or 3-dimensionally or something)?

Get the servers now before they can also mysteriously "disappear".

edited for spelling

the old fashioned way.

My guess it that they are auditing backups, deleting the incriminating stuff, and plan to release the rest.

Problem is, that leaves only 7 un-incriminating emails. And all of them relate to the lunch menu.

But there are a dozen pictures of Karl on the tarmac with his blackberry. How to explain those missing five-ish emails?

Is the true secret here that Karl is vegan, and all emails that contain "Tofu" were deleted? Oopsie, that cat's sure to get out of the bag now.
