90 year old widow with dementia tricked by slimy Republican politician.

<snip>
The single largest donor to Allegheny County candidates this year is a 90-year-old Upper St. Clair widow who hasn't voted for seven years and says she never agreed to give $10,000 each to four Republican candidates, including one for Superior Court and three for Allegheny County Council.
.....................
In an interview this week, Mrs. Jordan insisted she never approved any political donations and only learned of one when she received a telephone call thanking her for her support. She said she had no idea the donation had been given and expressed shock when a reporter told her the amount. "My God, that's terrible. I would never give $10,000 to politics. I can tell you that," she said. She blamed the donation on her attorney, Charles McCullough, himself a candidate for County Council. Mr. McCullough took control of Mrs. Jordan's affairs following a court dispute that began after she was taken in 2005 to St. Clair Hospital, where a doctor diagnosed her with moderate dementia. A Common Pleas Court judge later declared her incapacitated.

16. He's a lawyer w/ firm of Eckert, Seamans - which RICK SANTORUM just joined!
Edited on Fri Apr-13-07 12:48 PM by Divernan
That really makes us all sick! This is a very major law firm in Pittsburgh and the state, and this guys is a "member", i.e, partner, as opposed to an associate. You can tell from reading the whole article that this lawyer did not hesitate to ridicule his own client, and was spinning the facts at light speed. I conclude that there will be no professional sanctions of this piece of slime with a law degree. It would be up to the state's Supreme Court, and they allow the big firms to hush up their own scandals, and only go after solo practitioners.

www.eckertseamans.com

“After serving in the Senate for twelve years and the House for four, Rick Santorum brings a wealth of insight, experience and intelligence to our clients and their business affairs,” said Tim Ryan, Eckert Seamans’ Chief Executive Officer. “We are extremely pleased that Rick is joining our firm and that our clients will have the benefit of his understanding of what it takes for businesses to succeed in today’s global economy. He is highly respected among business leaders and we are very fortunate to have him as part of our firm.”

7. Well, I'm sure they all gave the money right back
As soon as they learned the circumstances, I'm sure all four of them immediately returned the money, right?

I said, "Right?"

Seems a bit early in the year and kind of chilly for so many crickets to be out.

6. C'mon, DUers, give the GOPers a break, will ya?!
They're on the ropes, what with Gonzogate, the missing emails of Rove, the "surge" and explosion in the Green Zone, and all. So have some sympathy! I bet being reduced to taking advantage of a 90-year-old widow with dementia is a degrading slap in the face and the ultimate insult for a group who once ruled the world!

:sarcasm:

9. You mean like Muhammed Ali's rope-a-dope?
Ali survived many bouts using the rope-a-dope.

Hopefully Gonzo, Bush, Rove, et al. will all trip over those ropes.

Even when the fat lady sings I still won't have sympathy. :nopity:

I wonder how we should all celebrate. :bounce:

14. I am sure if we hear the attorney apologized, we would insist he be
forgiven... and permitted to continue to handle this woman's affairs. otherwise... we just don't believe in forgiveness!!

15. It was $10,000 EACH, i.e., $40,000!
This guy should be reported to the State Supreme Court, which handles attorney licensing and disbarred.

18. The best we can hope for is that he won't dare give away any more of her money
to the GOP - but I bet the lawyer's catching hell from all the other GOP candidates as to why he didn't manipulate her to contribute to them.
