Do you think we'd ever see an Edwards/Obama or an Obama/Edwards ticket?
After the Goracle, these two guys are arguably the most popular candidates on DU; incidentally, they're also my two favorite candidates (again, after Gore). Is it possible that if one wrested the nomination away from Clinton, the other would be chosen as a running mate? I've done a little thinking about this...

Pros: * An African American paired with a White Southerner would send a positive message in these racially charged time.
* Their combined popularity and name-recognition might draw in more independant voters.
* A ticket with two young-ish candidates is unusual but not unheard of (like Clinton (46) and Gore (44) in '92); maybe the country is ready for a bit of youth and optimism restored to the White House.

(BTW, Edwards isn't so young anymore, despite his youthful appearance--I was floored to learn on Wikipedia that he'll be 54 in two months!)

Cons: * The North and South is covered, but what about the West? Someone like Bill Richardson could fill that role better.
* Two senators on a ticket = two voting records that can be carefully scrutinized; better go with a Gov.
* From Kennedy/Johnson thru Bush/Cheney, history has shown that parties like pairing fresh young candidates with elder statesmen. (Course, after Cheney's reign of terror, that may no longer seem like such a great idea.)

Add to this the fact that Edwards would never accept anything less than the presidential nomination this time around; I don't think he'd want the VP option again. But then again, I might be wrong. What do you guys think?

1. Edwards/Obama is more likely than Obama/Edwards

3. I'd like it, but I think the "lack of experience" argument would be easy to make
and easy to make stick.

Experience can be overated imo, (the Bushes had a lot, Lincoln and Washington had little) but it matters to a lot of people. Richardson on the ticket would certainly crush that notion. I'm not sure what I think about Edwards/Obama but I definitely like them as individual candidates much better than Hillary.

Been there, done that.

6. Ditto
Edwards probably wouldn't even wanna be a VP candidate again anyway. Besides, I think he's better suited for the AG position in the new Democratic administration.

9. No. Not enough foreign policy experience
either of them would need to choose someone strong in that area as their running mate. For the same reason, I don't think we'll see any of the 'top three' candidates on the same ticket.

10. I agree

The VP will probably either be Richardson or Clark. The latter provides the added bonus of credibility on military issues that only being a 4 star general can bring.

11. Yep. Clark would make an excellent VP candidate
My preference is Obama/Clark. Edwards is my second pick of those running, so an Edwards/Clark ticket has it's appeal, as well. :)

If Hillary gets the nod, I look for her to tap Richardson as VP.

Senator Jim Webb would also be decent VP choice for any of the top candidates.
