Dear Friend:

We've only just begun.

* What does Air America 2.0 mean? For starters, it means that we have signed Lionel to host our 9am to noon hours. Lionel has been heard on WOR Radio and some 92 affiliates -- and has been the #1 host in his time slot in NYC. Adding him to the AAR family is a major boost to our already strong line-up.

* Also, we're pleased to announce that Sam Seder will be staying with our Air America family to host a new program from 4-7pm on Sundays called "Seder on Sunday." The program will concentrate on two subjects that Sam has been outspoken and smart about from the start of AAR -- the networks and the netroots...specifically, the Sunday political talkfests and the blogosphere's take on America.

* MoveOn.Org and Air America will be co-hosting three "Virtual Town Halls" with the major democratic presidential candidates, with the first one entirely about Iraq today, Tuesday, April 10. Obama, Clinton, Edwards, Richardson, Biden, Dodd and Kucinich will be answering questions and we'll be broadcasting it on XM satellite, rebroadcasting it to all our affiliates on Wednesday at 7-9pm, and of course streaming it live 7-8:30. When you combine MoveOn's 3.2 million members and Air America's 2 1/2 million listeners – and add to that the topic of Iraq -- we expect an historic night in what promises to be a defining election.

* Air America celebrated our Third Anniversary this past Saturday, March 31, with a staff appreciation dinner at my home -- to honor the 60 folk who held this radio network together over the past 1000+ days, to thank all those who were there in the hard times and are now here for the coming good times.

* What good times, you may ask? To see a nice appraisal, read this article from Crain's, NYC's leading business magazine. The word is spreading that there's a new Air America in town...and in towns across the country.

Best,

Mark Green

1. This is from Wikepedia, which classifies him as a libertarian
...Originally espousing a largely libertarian political philosophy, Lionel has arguably adopted a more progressive stance, and his show has become increasingly heard on stations of a left-leaning nature. However, he personally eschews such labels and repeatedly criticizes those who hold opinions simply out of allegiance to a word like "conservative" or "liberal." Many of his stances, such as opposition to gun control, are not shared by most progressives or liberals. He opposes the death penalty on the grounds that the justice system is far too unreliable to be entrusted with that power, and favors decriminalization of drug use and of prostitution.

Lionel also describes himself as a "bright", meaning someone who holds a naturalistic rather than a supernatural world view.

Frankly, I don't want another bill maher.

Looks like AAR won't be much of a source for progressive radio for me, I will be looking elsewhere. I will be moving on to Nova M, and the Jones radio network for listening now

3. I've been hearing that he is a bit of a misogynist too...
Can anyone comment on that?

I am admittedly so pissed about losing Sam Seder that it won't take much to turn me against this Lionel guy....(we all have our biases, I guess)

4. If he is a misogynist then he is more like bill maher
Seder is entertaining, informative, and allows everyone to express their views

I pretty pissed about this also, but it is their nicket. It is also my right to listen to whoever I want to

8. I think you underestimate the support for gun ownership among progressives...
Many of his stances, such as opposition to gun control, are not shared by most progressives or liberals.

I think you underestimate the support for gun ownership among progressives; gun control is NOT a progressive issue, though some would like to make it so by default in order to avoid debate on the topic. (You know that Sarah Brady is a republican, right?)

6. That's a good way to look at it. Hopefully someone can lure Sam
away and get him back on more then just Sundays. What a shame.

7. Jones has been around longer than AAR (and they have Neil Boortz, so they're
not primarily a progressive network. Nova M doesn't play anyone I listen to, so I guess I'm stuck with AAR.
