Let me see if I have this straight
Clark to endorse the man whom some are saying he said would be sunk with an intern problem. Which means Clark probably never said those things. But kos says he confirms Clark did say these things - or atleast was talking about them off the record. And drudge is involved. And Lehane may be involved, but swears he isn't.

What a tangled web we weave.

1. You took the words right out of my mouth.
what the hell is going on here??

Will we ever know the truth about what went on behind the scenes of the Clark campaign?

18. Yeah we know. "Wes come over here. " ("1) Run for the demo nominee"
(2) "O.K Now drop out" (3) "O.K. Now endorse Kerry"

Can't say the gen. can't take orders!

P.S. He'll NEVER know what it was about or why. If you believe the last several months was happenstance...well..it wasn't.

2. If Clark said it, then endorsing Kerry is a big "F YOU" to Lehane
and if Lehane is behind all of this, then he's one vendictive little piece of shit.

7. According to Drudge who got it from Craig Crawford:
Lehane supposedly shopped around with the Kerry/intern story for a while and it was supposedly the reason why Gore decided not to endorse Kerry.

I won't link to it, but it's on drudge right now.

5. could be Clark is trying to tie up the VP spot
by jumping in to defend Kerry after the Dradge report said Clark confirmed this.

A recent affair with an intern who was paid off to go to Europe?

sounds like Kerry

13. There's little doubt in my mind that Lehane is behind all of this.
Not to mention the fact that he may very well be the Clark staffer who leaked to the press that Clark would be bowing out of the race, without mentioning this little important tidbit to General Clark.

15. There's a lot of weird behavior going on, I agree.
And I think Lehane's involved with much of it.

4. I think the whole 'Clark said this' part of the story is bullshit.
Edited on Thu Feb-12-04 02:59 PM by boxster
1) Clark has nothing to gain by saying it at this point.
2) Clark sabotages any chance he has at VP.
3) It doesn't sound like him, and he's been very careful with his statements to the press as of late.
4) He's backing Kerry. Making a comment like this first would be stupid. Clark is not stupid.

Edit: typo

9. But apparently Kos confirmed that he said it
I agree though, this doesn't make sense. It sure as hell doesn't sound like something Clark would say.

8. But if several
reporters are confirming Clark said it... well maybe Clark is looking to become a party man. Backing the apparant nominnee and get in good with T.McA. Who knows, but we had to know that Dean was never going to get a real shot at the prize after saying he'd take down Terry. Nobody, least of all undecided voters, are going to want to relive Clinton. Hows it going to look in campaign ads where the 'family values party' is going to go off with defense of marriage and poke fun at a nominee who can't keep it in his own. I'm not saying he did do this... but if it comes out that he did I can't see being able to bring over more undecideds to the cause. I can see the sermons now. And in Mass. what happens if Kerry blocks the marriage ban? Roman Catholics are gonna scream at this guy. I (and we) have got to find a more electable guy. Kerry may seem it but with his voting record (the botox stuff too) and now this? I don't want to know how many closets this guy has skeletons in, the GOP is gonna eat this up.

10. Betcha Clark found out
that he made intern statements that did not have a basis in fact, and once that became public knowledge, Clark would looks as bad as Dean for talking first, and thinking later. He dropped out, and endorsed Kerry, an now will likely quench the intern stories.

14. I find all of this very confusing and disturbing...the whole thing
May well be falling apart at our feet.

The loose ends of the story do not add up to a coherent whole.

17. Ridiculous
that people are relying on unnamed sources and Drudge and Kos rather than the people they have supported for months.

I don't care what Kos says unnamed sources say Clark said -- I care what Clark says Clark said.

This - I know this, or I bet this -- we don't know anything, except that Bush must go.

Don't drink the kool-aid people!

19. What's tangled? Lehane's looking for work.
While he was working Clark's campaign, Clark made him clam up on this. Now he needs a position, so he's getting himself a heap of publicity. The kind squeaky clean Clark didn't want, but which is valued by knife artists at liberty.
