Pelosi big news in Middle East
April 6, 2007, 10:58 PM
Other news, World

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, April 6 (UPI) — U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Friday, has been welcomed by the region's media, who have treated her visit as newsworthy.

Jamal Dajani, director of Middle Eastern affairs at San Francisco's Link TV, told the San Francisco Chronicle the Arabic media made Pelosi a top story even when Iran's release of the British prisoners was big news.

When I compare it, for example, to the visits of Condoleezza Rice, who is the secretary of state, this definitely created more of a buzz, he told the Chronicle. People in the States think this is a Democratic propaganda campaign. ... This has been seen totally differently in the Middle East. It has been seen as a breath of fresh air being brought into the region as far as diplomacy.

Some regional commentators viewed Pelosi's visit Wednesday with Syrian President Bashar Assad as a welcome change from the Bush administration's tactics.

I think dialogue and diplomacy are the best ways to deal with it, even if the American president would look with disgust at such an approach, wrote Masoud el-Henawi in Egypt's al-Ahram newspaper.

2. thanks babylon sister.....
a great read. I don't understand the American media's attacks on the Speaker. From all I'm hearing, she's taking the same message as the Administration, only with class & tact. I hope the Dems, and resonable Repubs get some face time on the Sunday shows to strongly defend Speaker Pelosi. Afterall, she's third in line to the oval office, I just don't understand why the media has decided to single her out for attack, when there have been three delegations of representatives, including repubs?

7. RE: the media, it depends on who runs and/or controls it, and that goes
for newspapers and TV. And journalists, usually, though some are piping up finally.

28. Remember who OWNS msm
They are all rich repugs. They aren't going to let their party, power, and $$$ go bye-bye, especially to a GIRL!!!! Remember the good ol' boys club is running the show (right into a ditch, but hey! they're getting richer and richer)

To learn what is going on in the world, we need to get our information far away from msm. And msm will continue to put down Nancy Pelosi and present the words of our pretzeldent and his keeper as true without anything like "facts" getting in their way.

3. I can't wait for the bu$h nazis to get the hell out of our WH
and have a REAL ethical competent administration again. An administration willing to take the high road and go for dialogue and diplomacy not bombs. It's a disgrace what this despicable bunch of asswipes have done to our good name and the carnage they have caused.Bu$h and his brownshirts are the ones who have made the world hate us so much. Their bullying and evil treacherous tactics have been a disaster. It's no wonder they feel that Nancy Pelosi was a breath of fresh air.

5. I think anyone who would make an effort at this point in time to
try diplomacy should be praised. Kerry and Dodd went to Syria after X-mas, but not much was made of that. The fact that Speaker Pelosi made an effort is very much appreciated, from me as well. For all the critical things I read, she did good.

27.  think it is wonderful to see more powerful women from the US
visit the Middle East as well. GIven some of the ME goverments terrible track records re women's rights and how few elected women there are in some govts there, I think it is a welcome change.

4. This is also
part of what our WH media does NOT want the American people to see because that genuine response would also be the natural response of OUr people. A breath of fresh air. Anew, real and popular rational policy and policy maker. Hope as opposed to being stuck with "our main guy's miserable death plan".

19. Darn tootin.
Now MSNBC is asking if Pelosi "broke the law by going abroad and meeting with an enemy of the State?" This has CHENEY written all over it.

8. It's reassuring that people over there know the difference between bushco & Democrats
and that bushco does not truly reflect what our country is really about. Good article.

12. It's well known.
The average American should know a little more than they do about the impact of the Iraqi Sunni/Shia bloodbath on the region.

Fu*k Bushco. Nancy Pelosi can travel wherever she pleases.

13. Wow, you give the average American too much credit. The average
American doesn't care so much. They're too busy, or worried, or rich (nah, that's not average, that's don'tgiveashit).

15. So this is why they are so upset
about her going to the ME, it was the reaction to her visit. They wanted to put a stop to any of the glow she or the dems may be receiving, any positive effect here at home from the reaction.

21. Too late
My best friend is very apolitical, rarely follows much more than basics.Enough to know who the shitheads are,but overall he doesn't really care for either party or politics in general. We were talking last night and he asked me what I thought of Pelosi and I told him that I liked her a lot,was glad to see that we have a woman Speaker of the House, and not just a woman for a woman's sake but a quality one.

I asked him why he wanted to know.He said,"I just her on the news and it was the first time I didn't cringe seeing an American politician visiting another country. For once I felt good to be an American."

The repubs are in big trouble.

What wonderful news! Pelosi has done more to "fight terrorism" in a few short months, than the Bush cartel has in six LONG years.
